Just finished all 18 chapters currently available for this, just couldn't put it down. It's funny, I saved it for last this week because I figured it'd be the worst, but (not counting kandachime), it wound up being the best. Can't think of anything to rec it with though. It seems to remind me vaguel of some other series, but I can't begin to place what other series.

same - patches recommended wallflower and i think ill do so as well, though it's only half wallflower, and half something else awesome. honestly it reminded me a lot of the first part of kare kano but i havent read that manga yet!

GREAT story, very engaging, i'm just pissed that

ep 1 of the tv series so far is a dead on representation of the prologue of the manga... i can only imagine how truncated the story will be if it continues at 1 ch per episode for those watching tv only, as they'll CERTAINLY not have the satisfaction i'm still waiting for :p (per the spoiler comment)

I think karin -might- be a rec for this, but it's been a few years since I read karin, and even that was only a few chapters.

Umi no misaki might be rec-able for this, since it also has a lot about girls who are new to the concept of relationships. It's a bit of a loose fit though.

The title that keeps coming to mind is mysterious girlfriend X, but I have no idea -why- it keeps coming to mind, since it really doesn't have anything in common with todoke beyond highschool relationships (which is a very common manga theme).
...Then again, they do both have rather weird/spooky girls whom are ignored by everyone, until one guy steps up & breaks the ice.

Precisely. I actually like the visuals in the anime better. This is a case where I think that the extra time put into the anime visuals smoothes out some of the rougher parts that come as a consequence of the airy style. ^_^

Has anyone here read both todoke and azumanga (or others like azumanga)? I've only seen an episode or 2 of the azmuanga anime, but I think that all the chibi type exaggerated scenes in todoke & they way they're handled might make a good rec for azumanga/et al. I need someone's opinion who's more familiar with azumanga though.

i think the problem wiht series like azumanga is those are pretty wacky/comedic slice of life type series, while kimi ni todoke is a pretty engaging romance at heart...

I agree very much. I just read Kimi ni Todoke recently and I got very interested in it. . .I like to keep reading to see how the story develops and how things unfold. Since reading and watching the Anime, I had noticed that a few of my friends found it as their 'guilty pleasure'.

This is in reply to Drahken's two month old comment:

I've read the entire Azumanga Daioh manga, and the first volume of Kimi ni Todoke. While they both go chibi at times, I would never think to compare the two. Azumanga Daioh's humor is quite different from Todoke, as the humor is less subtle and more wacky/crazy. It also lacks a romantic plot. It's also four panel, and I find that hard to compare to a manga that isn't four panel.
