One lucky (and logical) survival amidst a sea of deaths is hopeful and fits nicely, but when suddenly every single dead person is alive in the end by some kind of miraculous bullshit just because the story needs a happy ending so the protagonist's resolve won't fall apart, then it's over for me.

And I'll remind all of you that Kishimoto already pulled that once after Konoha's destruction. Because fangirls would kill him if Kakashi were to die.

I don't want you guys to misunderstand, though. I thought the chapter was good - but it's a ''conditional'' kind of good, as it depends of what happens from here on out.

I just can't trust in a shonen character death anymore until it's confirmed and re-confirmed.

I would have liked the deaths to be more even spaced. Come to think of it, there is a chance of that happening again (all characters coming alive). But a second time would be just...bad. As for Kakashi, I think he was kept alive for meeting Obito...he may even die with Obito.

Because it means he'll more than likely be stealing the glory of stopping the Juubi or Madara & Obito thanks to whatever the hell he's doing with Orochi ''Seven Lives'' Maru.

Which sucks, because I liked Neji and I literally was yelling, "NO, NO, NO, F*CK NO" as I was reading the last few pages.

Kishimoto won't pull the same thing twice with Obito. Besides, the amount of casualties from the war greatly outnumbers the casualties Konoha suffered when Pain attacked.

Also, this chapter clarified why Madara wanted to be revived with Rinne Tensei and not Edo Tensei. A lot of people including me were wondering why he wouldn't prefer Edo revival since he's immortal and unstoppable, but this makes total sense and I'm glad he and Obito aren't so buddy-buddy either.

Pretty anti-climactic death for negi. I guess since it's the big final battle, they gotta die somehow (even a barrage of pointy sticks). Didn't affect me much though =/

I teared up when it happened. I thought it was a very realistic anything can happen at any time during war kind of death. I thought it was done really well.

Neji is one of those characters I no longer remember they're around until they make some kind of cameo, even though I liked what they contributed to the story when they did have a spotlight. Not my fault, but the series', as it's been leaving the secondary characters too isolated from the main action ever since the timeskip. The exception would be the Shika team because they had a pretty cool arc for themselves as a saving grace, and a thematical continuation to it in the War.

It's not so much a matter of whether the cast is larger or smaller but a matter of how much attention Kishimoto has put on his characters over the years.

In a story like One Piece, where characters from one or several arcs are left behind in separate islands, it feels natural not to see them again in the main storyline, or at least not for a long period of time. You just remember them for what they did in their important moments and remind yourself they're now living their particular lives somewhere out there. You don't have that annoying sensation that they're being ignored. It's a kind of story where the setting itself justifies prolongated exclusions of characters.

In a story like Naruto, where characters all move on a same limited territory (the continent/world with all the countries and ninja nations), excluding a secondary character from the main action for so long equals neglecting.

It wouldn't have been so much of a problem hadn't it been so blatant. Shino is laughable as his scenes are cut off before he even gets to start doing anything. Kiba and Hinata are around sometimes just to work as tracker dogs for the rest. Team Guy did nothing during Gaara's Retrieval arc and they arrived in Konoha when all shit had already gone down with Pain.

Etcetera. Basically Kishimoto has missed most of his chances to have the secondaries do stuff in the recent and not-so-recent past(because really, there were many arcs for that) and now there isn't much he can do to make up for it. So the deaths may be cool if handled well but, as far as I'm concerned, not emotional.
