No Yoshino Takatsuki is the black-haired kid who gives Shu a hoodie in the first episode after he runs away from his sister.

Look at that image. I mean seriously, that does not look like a girl. But whatever. This is anime.

Oh, that was mentioned in ep 1 that they both cross dress in opposite directions.

Just goes to show you I have no idea who's named what yet :)

I guess she doesn't want to look like a girl, so she works hard to look like a boy...

episode 2, the combined crew of main characters is pretty unique, it's almost like they tried to cover all bases like a racially correct team of power rangers

i am enjoying the characters....

Ep 3

Not much to talk about from each episode so far but nonetheless pleasant to watch. I can't tell if Chi-chan
I kinda got that vibe from this episode.

I still find the actions/personalities of this kids hard to reconcile with their ages. They seem far too mature (at least some).

episode 3 has the feel of a nice plot in the long run, and mostly seems like true slice of life..... didn't understand a lot from the conversation with the model company people, just seemed convoluted.

I've seen plenty of boys that look like girls and vice versa in real life. Plus, at that age, it is even easier to be in the middle...

Anyways... Yawn. This series just doesn't seem to connect with me. I can tell it is kind of a heart felt series, with emotions and stuff all over... but, being rather secure in my masculinity, I have never really even thought about cross dressing and can't connect... oh wells.

I actually think this is about as close to true slice-of-life as anything I've ever seen. It's basically just a window in each characters day from what I can tell.

Go visit Thailand if you ever want to see evidence of this. It's like the trap capital of the world

Epsisode 3:
The notion of a 'genderbender' play (I am so sure the fansubbers could have come up with a better word than this) was so contrived, I stalled on episode 2 for a whole week. Like others, I'm confused about what kind of show this is is: pure slice of life or will it eventually develop into something more continuous? For me, that's a bigger problem than for most, as I think my expectations from episode 1 was the second coming of Koi Kaze. It still has a marvellous atmosphere thanks to the soft, charming animation and equally soft, charming score, but the characterisation is oddly insubstantial and whimsical sometimes.

My favourite interactions are with Shu and his sister - those moments are always bittersweet. Also

Episode 4:
I always find it interesting that people refer to 'Romeo and Juliet' as some kind of ultimate love story, a symbol of perfect romance. Like when Nitori says he wants him and Takatsuki to be like Romeo and Juliet, and live happily ever after with all their family. See, the point is, Romeo and Juliet were DOOMED lovers. Their situations were irreconcilable. To their loved ones, their romance was anathema. Hopefully, that isn't something that passed the author of Hourou Musuko by.

And in the spirit of random thoughts, I'm so intrigued by this notion that Nitori wants Takatsuki as a boy and wants Takatsuki to like him as a girl. Does this mean that who we love is invariably linked to our object of affection's gender? We can't ever truly just love the personality, regardless of what they wear? Or maybe your gender (assumed or otherwise) is a vital part of your personality.

Also, clearly I was wrong about Saori-chan.

That's the case with this author/writer at least. I wouldn't say that's the case for everyone.

I just find this entire show adorable for some reason. Even though the tone can be serious and the situations can be somewhat unpleasant or sad, it just puts you in a good mood when watching.

It's like you get a whiff of the old naivete or innocence of youth, or something to that effect.

The music doesn't hurt either. I want that OP single so bad :)
