I started this thread since there wasn't any. Then, today starts the buddy group, for me it's a rewatching, but as a matter of fact I only remember some scenes, not the whole story (I watched this on television, so I might have missed even one or two episodes).

Episodes one and two

As I told I don't remember very well the story and events. For example I was sure that the van-ship race was in first episode, but it isn't neither in the second. And I didn't remember all those war scenes. It means that it is a little slower than I remembered, but not boring.
Anyway, I like the way characters are introduced, even though the two protagonists seem too knaive (but they are quite young, so it is ok). But the fast hints about the other characters around whom the story is going to develop are good.

The only flaw is that they don't tell much about the setting, especially about the "chivalry code" (I hope it is translated this way in English too), however it will surely be clearer in next episodes.

I'm enjoying this rewatch.

Episode1 and 2.
Dude that opening is still one of the all time best. The haunting tune gets stuck in your head.

Anyhow, this series still looks as sharp as it did when I first saw it. I actually can not believe it is 2003. But then again, there are a few shots of the ship combat that does look a little stiff (being that it is all CG) But for the most part it is fantastic. The smoke, and clouds are very cool looking. This might have been the title, or Macross Zero, that got me over the Stigma/dislike for CG and Cel being replaced for vehicles or backgrounds.

The ship race

I think is in the next couple episodes. I agree with the overall way it kinda just drops you in this chivalry world (yeah I am watching the dub this time) as far as I can tell chivalry had them standing in rows of soldiers like Napoleonic style.

I will say it did kinda drop us in the middle of it all... However, I was always a fan of getting to the action right off the bat, then fill in the story later (as long as it happens, and does not leaving me hanging like a few titles)

I agree that the two protagonists seem a bit too easy going about going right into a battle field.

One thing I truly like about alternate universe Steam era (steam-punk) titles is what they are going to have that is behind in the technology department.
They are able to float the gianourmous ships and even power small Van-ships that dart around with no aero-dynamic properties, yet they still fight with steam powered muskets and use flares.
In these worlds like Steamboy, Skycrawlers, or Laputa, you never know what is going to be futuristic, and what is still stone age. =)

Obviously I am drawn to these stories like a moth to flame.
I am also enjoying this rewatch.

This is an excellent anime, and very high in my estimation. I have to admit that I too really enjoy these aerial based stories, like Laputa and this. Something about the boundless skies, open space and the ever present threat of having nothing beneath your feet. Really fantastic, it may be due a rewatch!

I'm rather more torn on the OP. The music is nice, but the vocals rather get on my nerves.

Additionally, I'm watching the dub of this (somehow the dub was easier to locate than the sub? It's all very strange), which is rather distracting, as I keep trying to pick out all the other characters from other shows with the same voice. Dear self: please stop breaking the fifth wall.

That's why I switched over to the sub even though I thought the dub performance was good.

I know. I am currently watching Infinite Ryfuss (how ever that damn thing is spelled) and there were too many voices that I recognize as the cast of this or that. So I switched back to the sub.

As for Exile, I am trying the dub, it is not as distracting seeing that I have a first time watch.
I have it on DVD though, so I guess it was easier to just drop it in.
Episode 3 and 4 the race and

the pick up of the 7 star girl package. from the other vanship

The girl screams Range Murata in design. lol his conceptual finger prints are all over this title.

Didn't the race remind you of

Star Wars Ep1? lol, I think the Exile Crew must have just got done watching that

I have a spare weekend coming up, so I think I'll have a blast through it amongst the football and xbox. Been a while since I saw it, and it's due a revisiting!

That diamond-shaped plane/robot chasing them is unpleasantly incongruent with the rest of the aesthetic...
