Still watching the series for the first time ... couldn't find a decent stream, then they started fresh on a certain popular site. Guess it's rebroadcasting in Japan?

Anyway, ep12 was special:

It was pretty hard to see Hitagi as a real love interest, since she alternates between cutting insults, threats of grievous bodily harm, and monitoring his interactions with the cute girls he somehow keeps rescuing.
So I was completely surprised that the date was in fact romantic - more than that, sharing a special memory and opening up about why she must hold back. A magical moment.
I suppose that by next episode it will be back to homicidal intent (Tsubasa has certainly come close to providing just cause so far), but I'll savor the feeling until the next episode airs.

Definitely going to continue, but two pet peeves keep getting worse.

1. Why does Araragi always have to playing the role of accidental pervert? Too many middle school girls in compromising situations.
2. Why do they have to put so much text on the splash screens? I don't have the patience to cycle through pause until I've read each word - but I'm probably missing a lot.

Since I just re-watched the show myself along with the audio commentary I will attempt to answer those pet peeves of yours without spoiling anything

I hope I don't sound like a gushing fan below as I may get a little long winded at points. I enjoy this show a lot, but like everything else, it has its own set of flaws.

1.

It may become a little more clear after you finish the show, but he really isn't an accidental pervert, but more of an actual pervert. He isn't walking in on girls accidentally while they are in the bathroom. Actually the "opposite" sort of happened in ep 2. He also likes Hachikuji a little too much as you will see in the beginning of ep 13. Also remember this scene from ep 3 where Araragi is at the park with Senjougahara?

So yeah, not accidental pervert, which may or may not be a good thing?

As for the "middle school girls in compromising positions", yep, you are right about this one. This show likes its middle/elementary school girls (Hachikuji and Sengoku). This is basically to provide otaku bait, same with some of the other characters. Gotta appease the lolicon crowd too!

You aren't really missing anything by not reading the text screen splashes, they are there for more 'artistic' reasons than actual informational reasons. I have read some of them and they provide more foreshadowing than anything. Maybe a slight extra bit of info, but nothing important that you wouldn't find out by just watching the show.

As for a place to watch it CrunchyRoll has eps 1-12 but I don't know if they will also be getting episodes 13-15 which technically didn't air on T.V. in Japan, but were instead streamed online, as far as I know.

And you might see this show popping up again after a while because they just released the blu-ray box set in North America which made a lot of people happy even though it is rather expensive @_@

If I'm not mistaken the splashes are actually sections of text lifted from the LNs. So if anything it's a continuity nod/callback that's meant for previous readers to smile at knowingly.

after i watched it once i went back and stopped actioned the anime to read the txt....not really worth the effort...

Thx for the background. Yeah, I was a little bit afraid it was no accident ...

The beginning of Nisemonogatari makes it a lot plainer.

And I will stop making myself crazy trying to catch all the flashes of text.
Still entertaining and most of the voice acting is downright brilliant.

Kanbaru especially in Nisemongatari ep 2 makes me want to study Japanese.
