what a great way to wrap it all up. just a good series through and through... Yui killed me all ep long. She's such a lovable airhead, and her and Ricchan make a great pair.

ep13 reconciled me a little, I'll give the series four stars. It also helped me put my finger on it: width and depth don't mix. K-On has heavy moexploitation but also tried to bring in drama and slower scenes. Doesn't work.

Episode 13

You know, I never thought that one line could save a show, but "Did you get those lyrics I sent you" was probably the moment that salvaged K-On! in my eyes. Not that it was an overly funny or cute line, but - having not particularly enjoyed most of the show's content - the idea that it was going to take from me (and seemingly me alone, as not caring for Yui, Mio or Azu-nayan seems to make me quite the anomaly) the one thing that it had left to offer felt like a barbed-wire kick in the crotch.

But unfounded was my despair, and I got to stare at my computer screen and say, ever so quietly, "don't worry, Ritsu. I'll send you a love letter :)", taking great care to vocalise the smiley on the end.

Not to say my opinions have made an about-face or that I'm now one of the drove of starry-eyed fans, but there's some relief to be had in a show abruptly applying the brakes before it careens off a cliff, and I've come to realise what it was probably all about in the first place. As such:

End of ep 12 - 3/5
Middle of ep 13 - 2/5
End of ep 13 - 3.5/5

I like continuity, and try to exploit the difference between a chat-room and a forum: memory. So I link to old posts a lot. Often my own because I can find them easily, but you can always click the triangle thing to see context.

But in this case it was more because there was no other critique to quote, only raves ;)
