like when Ushio sees the orb when at the inn with her dad. that was ushio's happiness. There were other orbs (i think there was an orb shown with the autistic genius girl when the suitcase was delivered... and others for other girls as well) but they were "happiness" other people had found.

First off i think you are forgetting one thing and it happens as Ushio collapses and that is she said that she tired but i couldnt do it by herself. Second the orbs where part of the town legend which Ushio was told about. Third no one likes bad enddings! If they all died in this anime i have no idea what i would of done. It felt like part of my soul was riped away when Ushio died right after Nagisa!

If we put the Frist thing and the Second thing to gather we can gather that Ushio was trying to find orbs to make a wish. We can also gather that since she had them and Tomoya had one that when she died he recived all the one she gathered thus making his wish come ture.

Also in the game i dont believe that all them dying it a true endding. I view it as a bad endding. Since almost no one likes enddings like that and it's a waste of time playing a game to end up with a TRUE END of them all dead...

I suppose I disagree with you in that I feel that the ending was not made clear at all. The orbs of happiness were only vaguely inferred, and as far as the legend goes in the show itself, there is no ability to transfer orbs from one person to another. Even if you decide that is acceptable, there was no connection within the story-telling. I feel that I had wasted a lot of time being emotional for a giant JK LULZ moment at the end. That isn't to say I wanted things to end with both the death of Nigisa and Ushio (I was rather torn up and heartbroken about Nigisa to tell the truth). I just would have preferred if the story had been portrayed better. Random happy ending does not necessarily mean good story, even if people don't like sad endings. To me, Nigisa and Ushio living as well as the shaky tie in of the "alternate dimension" still seems sort of tacked on and hasty.

Also, I don't know if this is out of line, but shouldn't all of that be under a spoiler for those that haven't finished the series? I am sorry if I am being inappropriate right now, I was just trying to be helpful.

Can anyone tell me how to get Dango Daikazoku out of my head? o_O

I moved a bunch of stuff about the show from the "finished watching" thread to here, since it's probably better off in the specific thread. I think I discovered a few things after giving it some thought.

No orb was collected during Clannad which made those who had actually played the game know exactly where this was heading. Unfortunately they did a lot of ass pulls and tried to collect an orb in After Story and try to use that SINGLE ORB collected in the WRONG PERIOD OF TIME to justify a giant fucking undo button of horseshit. Not to mention if you failed to collect all of the orbs his "friends" would have absolutely noting to do with him within the After Story. What they created was a jumbled up mess of repeat scenes and butchered source material using tear jerkers to make the viewer believe this was grade A 5/5 work, when in reality it's one of the worst pieces of shit you will ever see in your life. Praising this series as perfect imo removes your right to ever bitch about a series brutally butchering the source (whether it be manga or otherwise) again.

The orbs do indeed serve a very important and pivotal purpose. The orbs are what determines the path his after story takes, and they determine it at the beginning off the After Story, not during.

The "Other world" was really just there to set the mood and push the feeling of fantasy to try and allow you to accept the random ending they were trying to throw at you.

And no, 23-24 are part of the series, they are not OVAs, 23 aired one week after 22 and 24 aired one week after 23. They really did end the series with a full blown recap episode.

I've completed half the VN (all routes but Ryou/Kyou, Kitomi, and Nagisa), so I know how the orbs should have been collected, but that's impossible becuase it requires the true routes for characters other than Nagisa. You can't do that in an anime unless it's a harem.

I did notice that the title screens for each episode showed a growing number of orbs from ep1 to the final. They just didn't show the actual orb-falling process.

6 were added during AS to the 7 that came from Clannad. Although hindsight is 20/20, if you had finished the VN, you probably could have figured out what was going on here, even if you didn't see it "in" episode.

Another interesting thing I just thought of... those orbs form a constellation, that roughly looks like

Ushio sleeping when she appeared at then end of ep 22.

I don't know if that's something that's made obvious at the end of the VN or not though.

I'd have to go back and look at that. I don't remember an orb being collected then but eh, I could be wrong on that. Either way that still means only two orbs were collected in the series itself, and at the wrong period in time no less.

I started this yesterday. I've got mixed feelings so far. I thought the first episode was hilarious. Then Youhei got a arc and

he massively pissed me off. The arc also did not even advance the story, everything was basically the same at the end as before the arc started. On the other hand, we did learn a little about his and his sister's background, and the arc had a lot of funny moments, especially the final payoff with Akio.

The first 8 episodes and episode 23 are all filler. This means that over a third of AS is filler.

9-16 Are repetitive in their format, slow episodes with a random predictably obvious twist at the end of every single episode that attempts to make you forget that the rest of the episode sucked ass.

17-21 is the only reason why this series gets any kind of hype, since this seems to be the only portion of the series they actually worked hard on. It's worth watching 17-21

Episode 22 gives the conclusion, which ends up being a rip off of an old American TV series called Dallas. Basically you the viewer gets cheated by some total horseshit.

The final episode (24) is a pointless recap episode.

This series is heavily overhyped by people who seem to think that anything that makes them cry should be hailed as a masterpiece, when it's really just a fucked up shottily done butchering of the source material.
