Yeah, I'm giving it a shot. I'm my own critic.

I am pretty much a casual FF fan... and i really haev to say this movie disappointed me. The graphics were great and so was the music, as it always in in a square enix production, but overall i just couldn't connect with the characters at all... They just became random people running across the screen by the end of the movie and i was happy at the end because i would never see them again. In all of SE's other productions oyu could get to know the characters at least somewhat, but they dropped the ball on SW. My second problem is the storyline, it was pretty unique and original, but i walked in expecting something slightly related to the games and was baffled when i saw what it was. I don't think it was that the storyline was bad per say... but it could haev been alot better, especially coming from SE.

Does anyone think they were testing the waters of CGI when they made this movie?

Oh, I hated this movie so much. Don't get me wrong; it had impressive visuals and a generally interesting storyline, but I think I was more upset over the fact that they used the title "Final Fantasy" and then produced something so...American. It made the movie feel more disappointing than it probably deserved. Did anyone else feel this way?

Yeah, it was a little bit "American-ish", but I think they were aiming for the mass release to be AT Americans etc.
And as Bixie said, I think they were just testing the possibility of making movies.. Now obviously they didn't quite go to planned with this movie, but because of it, they were givin a lot of criticism on what the SHOULD do.. And the result- FFVII: Advent Children

Final Fantasy was one of the first gameseries I encountered in life and I'm in love with it since then :> I dont think The Spirits Within was that bad after all... I couldnt really connect to the characters, as you guys mentioned before, and I'd have prefered a recap of one of the games instead of this hollywood-like story. Therefore agree that its too american-ish and to the fact that it propably was some kinda guinea pig, but Advent Children disappointed me much more. I was really looking forward to a good FFVII animated movie, but this one totally shattered my dreams :(

Spirits Within was a great movie in my perspective. Though the CGI was not near as good as in FFVII: AC. It was what they had at the time. That doesn't take away from the beautiful story line.
The movie was captivating, and I didn't think there were any duel moments. Even if the CGI wasn't as good. The CGI of a movie shouldn't be judged with other movies. Especially newer ones. It should be judged by it's time. Yes I have played FFVII & FFVII: CC |
