The chess scene was deliberate. For those who don't know, Schneizel moved his king to a square that was adjaecent to Lelouche's king. Which is of course an illegal move.
This was a plan on Schneizel's part to judge the personality of Zero. Would he be like the emperor? Who would take the king regardless of the rules, because it would lead to victory. Or would he leave it? He left it, and showed Schneizel that at that point he cared more about his pride, and his methods, rather than the end result. This is the only time I'll ever stick up for R2. Promise! |

No chess player would do that. I think you're giving the creators too much credit. Or the characters were more retarded than I thought.
I mean, even if not take him with the King, take him with the goddamn freakin' pawn that was next to it. The scene made no sense other than to be a plot developer, and a very bad one at that. I mean, christ! Who'd not win a game handed to them, when that's the whole point of playing?! Bah, boardgames should never be used in anime. |

Apart from that, breaking fundamental rules of chess (as FalseDawn claims it is) wouldn't make your move clever. It'd just make it invalid. Lol. |

Okay, delving deeper into the chess analogy - a chess game is set up like a battlefield (which is undoubtedly what early Code Geass was based on). The strategies you use on a chessboard are meant to mimic what happens on the battlefield, and it was actually developed as a peaceful resolution to disputes (a war substitute, if you will).
If Schneizel had commented on Zero throwing his pawns away in wild abandon, or perhaps a scissor attack, or even a queen swap (where the player sacrifices his queen for the opponents), these would have had far more weight on the series than anything else and the analogy would have actually worked. Instead, they throw in some lameass excuse to an illegal move. That's what I meant by giving the creators too much credit :D |

You've watched 2 months' worth of anime and you still moan about having to wait a week or more for a series? Gawd, learn some patience already! Or watch something else, there's plenty out there. I expect that attitude from a newbie but not someone approaching otaku status :O |
