Yeah, making him even shorter in the anime, really plays up the height disparateness. But I will say, the manga is closer to how tall my wife it too me. =D

I find it funny how some 170 centimeters is supposed to be perceived as "huge" in Japan. :p
Well, I'm Scandinavian, so my understanding is probably limited.

i thought this was a very good show ....the character interactions and facial expressions where very well done....but like you say 172 cm is what 5 foot 6 or 8 inches hardly a giant....

150 cm is the standart for japanese girls, and 170 for boys, it is funny that Otani is like the girl of the relationship and Risa the boy, XD

I stumbled over this series by accident and started watching it and I haven't been doing anything else these last nights. (Spring have arrived for real here so You don't want do sit inside during the days.)

Halfway through the series now and I can't wait so read some comments here about it later.

I love it so far! First I didn't like the the way the characters was drawn but now I really love the facial expressions and Risa is so funny! :D But I can't help think of her as a offended Giraffe when I see her rantings.

I totally agree with BrainBlow above about the length-issue, I'm scandinavian too.
I think I have to move to Japan and feel tall for the first time in my life.

DONE! And I'm still laughing so my tears are streaming! :D This was really fun!
I really enjoyed this series. Simple, fun and refreshing. What can I say... all the funny faces!

The dialect was new to me though, it took a while until I figured out why I wasn't understanding things that I normally do. But hey... I don't normally understand that much anyway. ;) hehe...

Nice AMV in the link farfromahero posted btw. :)

A worthy show, were you watching it with subtitles you understood?

That AMV is indeed great. So glad people are discovering the show.

Oh yes! I can't understand that much so I can watch a series without subs. My understanding is limited to a few phrases and perhaps 20-30 words. It's what have stuck in my mind watching animes mostly. But it would be fun to learn more Japanese, though it seams to be a rather complex language.
