Just watched the first episode last night, so... umm... was anybody able to make sense of it? It's all pretty and such and the music is kinda interesting, but something aboiut the attempt to introduce 10 characters or so and start like 5 different plot threads left me with a headache. Is there some kind of background info the viewer is supposed to know, like was it based off a game or an old OAV or something? I'm so confused

Just watched the first episode, and all I have to say is: What the fuck?

Apparently, it airs in reverse chronological order, so it was actually *ending* 5 different plot threads. But since we don't know who these people are, what they're doing, what they have to do with each other, where this place is, what *time period* this is (feudal japan with magic, shotguns, trains and cellphones? OK...?), or really any kind of structure to put any of this information in, it all ends up being a horribly jumbled and meaningless mess. I kind of want to find out what is going on, but 26 episodes of reverse chronology? They'd better find a way to give us enough information to understand what we're seeing, at least.

Memento this ain't. :/

I really tried to watch this, but I'm just not prepared to spend hours re-watching ep's over and over to try to extract meaning. It wasn't badly drawn or voiced or anything of that nature. However as said above, more effort is required to grasp anything and thereby make the show enjoyable than the show could possibly be worth. I know this to be true having already seen the ending in ep one.

has anyone actually finished this and know if its good?
im assuming that since it hasnt even made it to an a-p page, despite it only airing last year means it was really bad... but its sitting on my hdd, and it sounds interesting

and if anyone has watched it, is it better to watch it chronologically or airing order?

I've been meaning to get around to this, especially since I've been bothering chii about her avatar lately. I've not heard too many good things about it, and its predecessor isn't all that great too (even for what it's worth). Then again, you never know. Some of the shows that don't pass mass market tastes can be really good at times.

I've seen the first two episodes and well, so far I've enjoyed the rather different approach to the usual series.
Thought I've been forced to put the series on stall since the massive amounts of new series starting this season and right now. Probably when I choose to drop certain series and if I choose to, I'll pick up on it again.
But certainly this series has peeked my interest and I'm going to watch this once some of the this fall season series come to an end.

Of the series itself, I can't say much, except that the artwork and animation is quite good. Especially the views. I don't know which could be better, chronological or order of airing, but I'm going with the order of airing since for whatever reason they chose to air it in that order, well, I'll just go with it. That's been the logic for every series I've chosen to watch. Even thought after the first episode I had small question mark written all over my face, but at the same time, I wanted to see more.

Thought I have to admit, I was surprised myself when I found out A-P did not have Touka Gettan listed.

I've only seen the first and last episodes myself but I can understand why its not on A-P, a few of the people I know who tried to watch it quickly stopped because of "confusion" do to how it's aired. Though I like how they took a leap at trying something new I don't quite think this one hit the mark. I can understand having some reverse chronology to a point, but having the complete anime air in reverse order seems like a bad idea, unless they were trying to achieve confusion in their viewers then they hit the nail right on the head.

I commend the brave souls who watch this in airing order, but I think to get a more enjoyable viewing of the anime it's probably best to view this in chronological order and not airing order, or rather in reverse. But thats just my two cents in it, has anyone actually watched this in airing order all the way through?

well im just not sure if its aired a-chronological to try and be haruhi-suzumiya esque. Or whether it works for a good purpose and cant be watched in any other way (kind of like Baccano!)

I mean Haruhi aired, and then you had Rental Magica, Hidamari Sketch and Touka Gettan all coming out and doing a different airing order too...

And something like Rental Magica was needlessly out of chronological order. It would have been a much better series if they just kept it in a normal progression...

True there's a difference in anime when it comes to not in chronological order and completely backwards. Certain instance it gives it a different effect, such as Haruhi, but airing it completely backwards doesn't necessarily give you the same effect. If per say a few episodes were aired in different orders than it would still be logical. You would still get an introduction to the characters and the resolution of the anime would be at the end, even if they had the ending at the beginning and then the rest of the anime was how it reached the ending it would make sense, it is a very good design. Take for example, Haruhi. If we take either its airing order or chronological order and aired it completely backwards, would the anime make much sense? No, The truth is you wouldn't really understand what was going on and a normal person would lose interest due to udder confusion. Even the few people in this thread can testify to how its was aired didn't make sense.

Though I can't completely talk about this in the sense of this anime because I haven't seen it all, all I can judge this on is from what I've read and a logical standpoint. Though from a generic stand point having a structure like this in an anime isn't as effective as it could be.
