Well it's time for the second meeting of the Assy Anime Club to commence and nothing puts the ass in assy like what appears to be god awful yaoi. I have some idea of what to expect because I watched the music video collection in preparation for the main event but I'm still banking on dialogue giving this thing an extra layer of hilarity.

Here is the full compilation of music videos for anyone that's interested. The music is god awful but hey that's to be expected. I think I agree with Hasse the one that looks like a gay Bubblegum Crisis is the best most unintentionally hilarious.

So I expect this to be like the battle of Cannae in that there will be a long sweaty struggle that will end when the opposing force gets taken in the rear.

Okay, so I finished this a while ago (saving stuff with Go Nagai's name in the credits for last is always a good idea, IMO) and I can't say that it was that bad. The animation is roughly of the same standard as it's contemporaries (this was produced by Madhouse) and the chins weren't really that pointy. I believe the sequel is more true to the source manga, however. I'm still not really sure if the first one should go into the HoS, though. I mean, the story almost makes sense, unlike a certain yaoi me and Marius were forced to watch...

But even if it's not superassy, it is unintentionally hilarious. From the get-go it's full of cheese and weird melodrama, the story is painfully unromantic and things really go overboard in the last third (I smile whenever I think of the ending, but not for the reason the creators intended). Maybe it does qualify for the HoS after all...

Heh, yeah this this is way melodramatic but not completely dreadful so far. The voice acting is way over the top though especially Katsumi. It's like these guys are having a contest to see who can act their role the hardest. It's not as bad as Maiden Rose but it's still really noticeable.

Yeah, bullshit.

I just finished and I pretty much agree with everything Hasse said about it. The melodramatic script, cheesy voice acting and shitty music definitely lead to some unintentional hilarity. It's more mediocre than true shit but there is plenty to laugh at with it's super serious heavily dramatic tone all highlighted by voice actors acting the shit out of their roles.

I think one of my favorite scenes was the first in the hospital where Kouji almost kisses Takuto and then jumps back like 20 feet across the room all while vigorously denying he is gay. Then to reinforce than notion he decides to just grab the sister and start hugging her because that is all completely rational. Oh and the fact that he almost kisses the guy because he was calling out for his father in pain but the OVA is full of silly little moments like that.

Or the sepia toned sex scenes. They were pretty damn tame and not that hard to watch.

Re; the kiss: my theory is that Kouji gets turned on by people with daddy issues.

Okay some quick observations after watching:

1) Everyone here must love getting sick and/or injured on a constant basis.
2) Super forced dramatic scenes are super forced. DAT TRUCK AND TEH DUMB SISTAH.
3) Aizen sure sings like shit.
4) Keith Anyan, not satisfied with conquering the world, is now able to break football nets with his shoot.
5) Superficial wound with broken glass in arm. Bleeds from the mouth.
6) Mandatory uninmportant sidekick for one of the gaymen who gets a couple lines in altogether.
7)

8) WHY DID YOU HAVE TO INTRUDE IN MY LIFE
Because you felt the urge to bring him home when he was playing hobo, freak-out master.
9) For some reason, it is necessary that some random guy tells a football team to pass the ball to their ace player.
10) There had to be a number ten.

Considering the other shonen-ai/yaoi titles I've watched this is not that god-awful, just pretty damn terrible in its execution/dialogues as all of its kind. Also the non-existance of a sex scene is to thank for because even setting aside my gender preferences they still mostly suck. The lack of a... happy? ending for a change is also somewhat appreciated, if only this didn't have a sequel where that's bound to happen.

Ok, so the song "The Crimson Scar" reminded me of Gloria Estafan's Conga... at least the opening music to it does.

One thing that just occured to me was that there weren't really any seme/uke bullshit dynamic in the relationship, which is a plus in my book. I'm also glad that I saw Utena before this: hearing Takuto everytime Touga speaks would be unbearable, and the same goes for hearing Serika everytine Shiori speaks.
