Community Awards cancelled - I've realized one anime deserves all awards...

Dear friends,

Though we've had the community voting on 2009 anime awards for a few weeks, I'm sorry to say that I'll be ending the voting early because of an important realization: though there are many anime out there, only one is, well, perfect enough to deserve any awards that come from Anime-Planet.

And so, without further ado, the awards. Forgive the lack of backgrounds on some of the images - we weren't fully done coming up with them before my sudden change of heart:

Best Sci Fi



You may be wondering, how is Training With Hinako a sci fi anime? Plain and simple, Hinako's breasts are so massive - dare I say borderline saddlebags - yet they somehow manage to have the appearance of being in a push-up bra. There can only be one explanation: the elusive yet fanboy-craved 'anti-gravity boobs'. Only in science fiction does such a thing exist.

Best Horror



Though I've seen plenty of amazing horror series in my time, none were as terrifying to finish as Training With Hinako - I'd rather dream a million nightmares than experience the horror again of knowing that such a glorious series is about to show its credits :(. If only Training With Hinako could have lasted forever...

Best Action



I'll bet quite a bit of action took place when certain fanboys watched this AMIRITE?!?!

Best Mecha



While it's true that Training With Hinako has nothing to do with mecha, I couldn't help but think while watching that it would be awesome if Hinako was doing her exercises while piloting a mecha. Of course, the mecha would also need the same cleavage as Hinako herself, and that might not be possible with the state of today's robotics, but a girl can only dream right?

Best Comedy



Comedies should delight the viewer and help them laugh with mirth and whimsy - there is no anime out there more suited to this award than Training With Hinako. I laughed alongside her trials and tribulations, thinking back to my childhood days of... wait, what?

Best Villain



Sure, there are the Light's and Knives' of the anime world, but can anyone honestly argue with me that there's a greater, more nefarious and flat out evil villain out there than Hinako's shirt, holding back her most valuable assets?

Best Drama



Will she finish her exercises? Will you be able to last the entire episode before having your desires satiated? I'm at the edge of my seat...

Best Fantasy



Record of Lodoss War? Guin Saga? Pssshaw! Training With Hinako surely manages to create 500 fantasies per minute from all of its male audience!

Best Romance



Though not much seems to happen in Training With Hinako, it's clear that her relationship with the viewer evolves in a manner too subtle for most lesser anime. The increasingly sweaty and enthusiastic Hinako eventually becomes comfortable just being in the same space as the viewer, demonstrating that their love has evolved to the kind of mellow familiarity shared by married couples. Such is the arc of real love.

Best Mystery



How could Hinako's monstrous mammaries stay afloat without the need of prosthetics? Why are there cameras embedded at strange, upshot angles throughout her apartment? These mysteries will never be solved...

Best Full Cast



Both Hinako and "The Twins" fill their roles perfectly. Vivacious, always entertaining, and in a constant state of flux this ensemble made me laugh, cry, and showed me a greater meaning in life.

Best Slice of Life



Hinako's day to day routine of pushups and situps are clearly an average look into the life of a typical woman - hikikomori around the world will now have a glimpse into the world of the unattainable: normal women. And who better to portray a typical girl than Hinako? No one else that I can think of!

Best Sports



"Solo" sports aside, Hinako's exercises would get anyone's blood pumping. Screw baseball and basketball, pushups and situps are the way to go!

Best Animation



Few series have shown such beauty, such flow, such grace of movement as Training with Hinako. Truly, the animators were blessed by the heavens with their keen eye for detail and spectacularly-placed camera shots.

Best Plot



Overly-busty girl does pushups and situps in a scantily-clad outfit. HOW CAN IT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS?

Best Setting



What, do you think there's a better place for someone to do pushups and situps than in an apartment? Sunsets, rainforests and evenings under the stars begone - Training with Hinako is unmatched in setting.

Best Character Development



Through thick and thin, we watch Hinako grow from a normal girl to a firm workout machine - albeit one that is a bit saggy at times. By watching Hinako grow into a mature, fit young woman, part of us grows to a large extent as well.

Rustling fabric and that voice - I think I'm in love!

Hinako herself wins this honor, hands down. You may be wondering why I didn't choose her as the lead (read the lead section for more info), but in general Hinako showed more determination, bravery and kindness than any character in an anime, basically ever. Shine on, Hinako, with your newfound glory!

Best Male Lead



This award goes to all of you men out there - that's right, to all of you! For without you, Training With Hinako might never have been created, and that would have been a disservice - nay, a tragedy - to the human race.

Best Female Lead



Clearly there's only one viable option for best female lead - Hinako's perky pair. They are easily the star of the series, and of all of our hearts. Truly there isn't another female lead that could capture so many fanboys' attentions, not to mention be so interesting as to spawn a sequel, Sleeping with Hinako!

Best Series Overall



I trust that by now I have proven that Training With Hinako is deserving of all awards in the Anime-Planet 2009 Community Awards. While I feel bad depriving you, the users, with voting rights, I felt it was my civic duty to commandeer the proceedings and give the honors where they are most deserved: this beautiful, awe-inspiring series. My hats off to you, Training With Hinako.

Though I normally would have just posted the regular awards, our very own therik was so insistent on paying homage to his favorite pick of 2009 that I created a special award category just for him. It of course goes to Kodomo no Jikan: Ni Gakki

As I stated before in my review, Kodomo no Jikan is a heartfelt, delicious and sex--err... Surprisingly deep look at the interactions between students and teachers. 2009's OVA picks up where the series left off, placing the delectab--delight--precocious girls on display once again. While the shorter OVA hews more toward comedy and ecchi fanservice, it still gets my blood pum--plays to the casts strengths and delivers a memorable experience that remains with me, even as I close my eyes to sleep. These sharp youngsters, so astute, so direct, haven't truly "aged" despite their actual advancing age, instead, an air of subtle desperation makes them all the more appealing... As characters. I mean, they're more focused, so they... err...

I feel like I should increase my review rating for Hinako after reading this. I seem to have missed out on the more complex nuances of the show.
