Default You can now exclude forums from 'new posts'

I've installed a helpful plugin that allows users to hide selected forums from showing up in 'new posts'.

You can access these options by going to User CP, then 'edit options', and then scroll to the bottom of the page. You can highlight one or more forums (hold down 'ctrl' and then click to add multiples at once).

There are certain forums that you can't exclude - namely, the site announcement and feature forums. But everything else you can.

The most common use for this would be to filter out the moderation sections, if you dont want every new submission showing up under new posts. For that, you'd want to highlight both the Character Submissions forum, and Completed Character Submissions.

You can also use this to help tailor your 'new posts' experience - for example, if you only care about General Anime Discussion, you can just exclude everything else.

These forums will still show up in the index, but posts will not show up in 'new posts'. I think it also hides from 'new threads' but haven't tested that part.

It appears that you installed more than 1 plugin (or that one installed some other crap too). There is now a distinctly obnoxious social bookmarks toolbar all over the forum (one which insists on being 2 lines tall, even though the few links in it should easily fit on a single line). That bookmarks toolbar thing is ugly & intrusive.

haha, I was looking for the option to turn the bookmarks off but I couldn't find it. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed...

thats a different issue and i turned it on for people to use. the styling will be updated so it's on one line though.

seriously though guys, it's that intrusive to have a single section you have to scroll a half inch past to get to the quick reply? really?

it's fine to not want to use the bookmarks on a personal note, but let's not blow things out of proportion here. it's quite simple to scroll a half inch farther than you normally do (or slightly less once the styling is done)

Well I wasn't going to say anything for just that reason since I know this will rank low on the priority list, but there is a wee bit of a styling issue like you pointed out. It's different. Different can be annoying at first. And honestly it just surprised me that it was there since I didn't see anything mentioning it.

its something i discovered while looking for how to exclude the new char subimssion section from vbseo, as theres a bug with moving threads and the attachments that i'm hoping itll fix. just didnt think it was important enough to call out in an announcement, as it's just allowing bookmark links (common anywhere on the web nowadays)

So are popups and emails trying to sell viagra. Just because cockroaches are a very common lifeform doesn't mean that having some in your kitchen is a good thing.

As I've said before, it isn't a website's responsibility to make it easier for people to use a bookmarking site (are the people who use those links really so lazy that they can't be bothered to add a favelet to their browser??). That would be like expecting anime streaming & downloading sites to include links to make it easier for people to add stuff they watched there to their a-p list (or ANN or anidb). If someone wants to add something they watched on X site to their a-p list, then it's that user's responsibility to deal with it, not the video hosting site's. Likewise it isn't a-p (nor any other site)'s responsibility to help users of bookmark sites add stuff to their bookmarks.

It wouldn't be so bad if it was just on the main forum page or something, but it being on Every. Single. Friggin. Thread. is extremely annoying & obnoxious.
