Say we offered a toolbar that you could use to have access to your favorite things on AP (plus an easy search, access to your profile content, news and updates, etc). What are the top things you'd want to see in it?
Ideas I have (though I'd love to hear all ideas, and which ones you consider the most valuable): (note: some of these might not be possible, this is just a brainstorming phase) -search functionality -a chat button that opens up mibbit or a web irc client to the channel -easy profile links if logged in (this might not be possible, but in theory could link to your anime, manga, blogs, reviews, etc) -easy access to the browse pages (anime, manga, reviews) -'surprise me!' type feature where it shows you a random anime or manga -A link to the newest site news, or recent anime/manga added any ideas?

- Cross OS compatibility: Win/Mac/Linux please
- Notification of new profile comments - Notification of friend requests - Search AP Another feature Id like, but Im not sure is possible, would be the ability to highlight and right-click the title of an anime somewhere else on the web, click "Summery", and get a pop up giving me the summery of the series. |

YES. Saves me the trouble of navigating and then searching. AND WAIT... There's an A-P IRC? Why am I such a loser.
I'd keep the bar minimal, though... Search and navigate. I like my browsers to stay clean for the most part. The search bar would get real use, link to my page would be huge (watch list direct even better), 'surprise me' and new reviews/anime would be gravy (although as an alert system, might be cool). Can you convert the 'new anime' and 'reviews' updates into an RSS feed that can be displayed one entry at a time by the tool bar? Or as an RSS feed in general? Am I asking the wrong thing in the wrong place? |

those rss feeds already exist XD
hm, looks like the reviews one isnt linked anywhere (weird) but newest anime and manga are on the newest anime/manga pages, at the top. i likely should add another column in the footer for rss feeds, since now the ad isnt there anymore. ill try to do that tonight.

deathy on twitter just had a very interesting idea (it might be too dynamic for what i'm thinking ill be able to do - as what i'd be building starts as a predone solution - but still, awesome idea): a button titled something like 'View on A-P' which parses the title of the site page you're on, and tries to find a matching one on AP

But a toolbar would be awesome! I'm all for the search function and user-pages. If it proves too difficult to be able to actually "log in" on the toolbar, why not have the user insert his or her username into the toolbar once, making all the "user buttons" redirect to that users pages. |

yeah id love the login options, it just depends on if it's technically possible. what i'd be using is a prebuilt solution that you can modify, so it just depends on if their API lets you do such things :)

notification of new blog etc comments maybe ... but this could also be done sitewide - like the forum notification you have new PM, just a line in the Nick / blog / edit profile | logout box saying you have one new comment
but more important it should also make coffee/tea/etc :P |

I like the idea of a a-p search bar alot. Considering the number of times I am clicking back and forth from the place and my other random wandering of the net. I like the search ability, and the login stuff. The idea of being able to highlight a title on another page and getting something that would give you a description sounds amazing. I don't know how that would be possible in most browsers but in firefox i assume an add-on could be able to do that. It would be amazingly helpful. I am actually between programming projects write now so i would be willing to do some research on how that would be possible and on what browsers it could be done.
I will also start thinking of some ideas of my own to contribute. |

I never use such toolbars myself, bookmarks are much better.
However, I do have something similar to that, a custom menu I tack on to a-p pages. In it I have direct links to the various browsing (anime>recent, years, alpha, studios. manga>recent, alpha, years. tags (no point having seperate for anime & manga, since they all lead to the same page anyway)), a link to my profile page, and links to my anime lists (watched, watching, etc). regarding chat: Browsers which allow such custom toolbars often have their own chat prog built in, so you could also include a link directly to the irc chan. (Such a link will also work if they have a seperate irc prog installed, such as mirc.)
