Card Battles - I know it's a bit simplistic... but could a picture of a card work? Or a couple of cards, fanned out, laying on top of each other? Or do we have like a gambling genre as well?

Countryside - A picture of wheat or something. Maybe a hay bale.

Ecchi - Erm.... Since panties are taken, a bra, I suppose..? Or a scantily clad or overly endowed woman.... or something....

Futuristic - I like the idea of showing a spaceship. Doesn't have a to be a big one, just some sort of small fighter, etc. Kind of like the Starcraft icon, if you have any idea what that is...

Ghost Hunters - Lol. Too bad it would probably be copyright infringement to use the Ghostbusters symbol.

School Life - A picture of a university/graduation hat?

Horror - What about the stereotypical large kitchen knife being held upside-down by a disembodied-hand. Sort of like Psycho/Michael Meyers style, but no gore.

Internet - PC monitor, or an ethernet port/plug.

Josei - Hm.... This is hard... I'm not entirely certain how to differentiate between Josei/Shoujo, since they're targeted at different ages of the same audience.... :\ Only thing that comes to mind is making a more mature looking version of the male/female restroom signs... but even then, it might be hard to tell.

Psychic Powers - A smiley with a Third Eye?

Sexual Content - Hm... Kind of hard... A picture of lips with deeply colored lipstick..? I guess...

Smut - We have a Smut category?

Superpowers - A person symbol with DBZ-esque energy surrounding their body?

Survival - Erm... A campfire? Or a tent, or something camping related.

I'd almost prefer employing the "mushroom cloud" for Post-apocalyptic, the tank for ww2 and a more classical canon for war.

Space opera: a space-ship that's karikatural for movies and comics (yet physically irrealistic!)

Martial Arts: kung-fu / karate fight jump in the typical loose yellow-white trousers and shirt and also a black belt.

Slow-paced: a snail smiling at TV

Such a cannon was indeed what I was thinking of.

Employing the perspective of troops is indeed a better way to point to the military.

And thinking about disemploying the tank from ww2 tag image, we could use the sign of the nazis there. (You know, this one.)
