Want average ratings? We'll build them for V3 - need donations to cover development!

That's right, hell has frozen over - I'm going with the will of the people and adding average ratings to V3.

V3 is set to launch in a few weeks, and our budget is almost gone (with a lot of other features left). Average rating is something we're willing to throw in at the last minute, but we need your help to do so.

This task would include:

-Updating the back end for users/entries (boring stuff, for most people :p)

-Displaying avg rating in anime entries

-Displaying avg rating in manga entries

-Displaying avg rating in reviews (down in a section where you'll be able to mark status)

-Allowing filter by avg rating (ie, only show me [these genres/types/etc] that have an avg rating of above [x] or below [y]) - i'm not going to go into detail on this now, but this is a HUGE new feature that i'll be showcasing soon.

This task will cost $400 to develop (ie, time that is billed to me by our development team). We have $101 in our donation account (thanks to ScarletEmerald, Kari5, Lanxdata and Juana). This leaves us with $300 needed to build this feature, which is literally the most requested (and frequently requested) feature we've had in the history of AP (8 years!)

If you've been lusting after this feature and want it, now's the time to donate. We only have a few weeks left before V3 is out, so we need to get funding fast so we can make sure there's time to finish it.

universal average, which is a more scalable solution. but the scores will be weighted, which in theory will still weed out people who vote all 1 or all 5, etc.

Kk. Makes sense. That will keep some semblance of balance to the system, it sounds like.

(Naruto will still maintain a 4.93 average under that system, though. >_< )

just to clarify once more, the plan is not to implement avg rating by trusted user anymore - you wont have to be chosen for your vote to count, it'll just count. the votes will be weighted however based on normal statistical methods, meaning if you vote all 1 always (as an example) your vote wont end up counting as much. this way it's a scalable solution that still will hopefully weed out people who put little effort into votes, heh

Does that mean that people who vote mostly between 6-10 (because they avoid or quickly drop most really bad shows) won't get weighted as much as the masochists of the world, or any who force themselves to use the full range? Also, is there any way to weigh it less for those who haven't seen more than like 20-40 anime, or a certain number of hours/days, as well? That would probably make some sense too.

cetonis: i'm not sure about customizability... i know we'll be using standard weighting mechanisms and i dont think those will apply to things like how many series watched. i can ask but dont know of the details.
