Season information is now available

I've just added a niche, but interesting feature.

You can now check out all anime that started in a certain season, by looking in two places:

1. On the "browse by year" page. For example: Spring 2008 Anime (check out the filter - you can choose from anything in there. By default, if you are on the browse by year page and click a year, the filter will show all).

2. From an anime entry that has the associated relationship. For example, Sekirei - Anime-Planet .

Right now the placement of the text on the anime entry is pretty bad, but at least you can see it at the moment.

I filled in 2007/2008 (through summer 08) but am not sure if I missed something or it's correct. I've worked on this all night and am very tired, so if someone can double check my work I'd appreciate it. I'll probably add through 2005, or earlier if people really want it.

In the next day or so you'll be able t o mark upcoming seasons even if the entry is blank (as we assume within one season all the info will be added, and then you can still keep up to date track of your life), so at that point the fall 2008 tag will work as well.

Couldn't a script do that? Just partition by month. And if your database only has the year, use the AniDB link field to scrape the rest from them ;)



In February I made a useless graph showing, afair, how many episodes I watched over the date a series started.

Clearly visible is the 13 week/episode rhythm of seasons, even winter (no icon), although that only sees short series. Probability of a final count above 13 eps by month:

01 20%
02 25%
03 33%
04 68%
05 43%
06 14%
07 31%
08 60%
09 57%
10 60%
11 40%
12 00%

(don't have good data for that, though)

So Summer is always below spring because fewer new series start as longer series continue to block airtime. Fall usually brings the good stuff! And since spring 2007 I have less time to watch anime...

we decided the best solution for now was to store a database ofseason information, and then append seasons to anime (like a tag). the problem being we don't have complete date information at the moment, and building that in and figuring out the logic would have taken more time.

the goal is that eventually we'll have that sort of detailed date info, and could just store the start/end date of a season indeed.

...yeah, why does that matter? currently the ongoing series don't store an end date. nothing will change on your end.
