Since they seem to be rampant in the anime/manga world, I've added two humorous tags - Token Beach Episode and Token Hot Springs Episode.
Please post here with links to anime (or manga) on Anime-Planet that fit the bill (CHECK THE LINKS FIRST TO ENSURE THEY ARENT MARKED ALREADY). Right now I'm looking for anime whose whole purpose is this. For example: Zero no Tsukaima: Princess no Rondo: Seductive Beach | Anime-Planet <--got the beach tag. It's a single special whose purpose is a beach episode. I'm also interested in your opinion - should we use this tag on series that are normally not about this, but contain a token beach/hot springs ep? I'd lean towards yes - the descrip would be something like 'anime that have this tag either contain a token beach episode, or their entire purpose is a beach episode'. But would this be misleading to you if you saw the anime entry and the tag? Or would you understand that it means 'it has a token beach episode somewhere in it'? Thanks! If the general consensus is to add it to normal series with a token ep, I'll add it to those series too. For now, separate your replies into something like, 'sole purpose' (specials or things that are solely these eps), and 'contains an ep' if you want to list anime/manga that have this sort of ep in it, in case we start tagging those. I suspect these tags will mostly apply to anime, not manga

Here's an obvious one:
You're Under Arrest!: Diverting Traffic at the Beach And as for your question, I'd lean towards no simply because no tag should go to arrive because of one or two episodes only. It might make sense for 1-cours series, but when you've got 26 or more, the beach/honsen episode get so minor that it's probably not even worth mentionning. And what you you do with looong running shounen series? Surely even Bleach, Naruto and obviously One piece have their own share of those right? So yeah, it wouldn't make much sense to me. |

To Aru Kagaku no Railgun: Entenka no Satsuei Model mo Raku Ja Arimasen wa ne | Anime-Planet
EDIT: This is a pretty short one. But on the tagging this for one episode in a bigger series. I think that some series that the tag would fit for like (I think) Sora no Otoshimono has a hot springs or beach token episodes or multiple of those would be a good one to tag, because it's a shorter series (13 episodes) and this tag fits into it's style. What I mean by style is that it's not like a Naruto or a serious series, where one random week they have a Beach filler or random episode that is kinda out there compared to the rest of the series. I have one question though, I know the tags say 'Token Episodes'. But then there are series like http://www.anime-planet.com/anime/shinryaku-ika-musume or http://www.anime-planet.com/manga/koibana-onsen which take place entirely in a beach or hot spring and not just one episode. These wouldn't get tagged right? EDIT 2: Beach |

the only reason i'd lean towards yes is these episodes tend to be eye rollers for any series - oh great, there's the token beach episode in the middle of the series. as opposed to, say, a token sports team episode, the beach/hot springs ones tend to be talked about

I think the token beach/bath episode tag would get overused & lose it's meaning if it was attached to every series that has just a single ep. Nearly every shounen anime out there has a token fanservice ep, which is always about chicks in (or out of) bikinis at a beach, pool, or hot spring.
I think the best use of this tag would be for stand alone OVAs/specials which are part of a larger metaseries, where the main series has nothing to do with beaches/baths but the special does. One major question: Does this apply to full length series which are about beach or springs? The "token episode" part of that certainly wouldn't apply, but your comment about "whole purpose" would kind of indicate those as well. Examples; Koibana Onsen Manga | Anime-Planet Yururizumu Manga | Anime-Planet

i think only for short series - as the whole 'eye rolling' idea of the tag is an ep that seems totally out of place/fanservice :)
