I would like to help out as a chapter updater. It's annoying that many ongoing mangas are barely updated and many others only have volumes but no chapters.
I've got enough time on my hands and would like to help to change this.

id be excited to have you onboard as a chapter updater - first, let me know once you read this and understand points 3 and 4... it's the reason why a lot of manga only have volumes and of course, it's important that mods only add chapters in the cases listed there :)

I think I understand points 3 and 4 but I fail to see how that's the reason that many mangas only have volumes.
I'm probably overlooking something important but I can't figure out the coherence. :/

i think those points are pretty clear but i'll reiterate here.

1. if we dont know the total number of chapters, and a series is finished already (ie, scanlations are releasing chapters slowly), we cant add chapters. this is because the series is finished, people can mark 'read', and the number of chapters isnt the total number of chapters.

2. if there's 14 volumes out in japan and translators have only tackled 5 chapters of th emanga, clearly this is nowhere near 14 volumes. what happens when the manga now finishes at 15 vols, and can be marked read? chapters is only at 5. same issue as #1.

3. if the series is licensed in the US, as an example, and is out only in volumes (and not to read online), someone needs to personally be holding the volumes and sees the # of chapters for us to know what to put in fo rit. just using some other site and trusting their chapter count doesnt work.
