Got mixed feeling about this. The animation is flawless, but i dont like the screens popping up in their heads. I mean. That's just not FMA.
Also Edward acts totally different from manga and first FMA anime.

Seems like they're not fully following the manga either.
The OP was awesome though, and allover. I just have a weakness for FMA, just like the rest of us.

Hmm.. I definitely prefer the original thus far and don't care for Ed or Mustang's design atm. They look more crisp in the original. Hughes! That's all I'll say on him and Armstrong is still the goofy, muscular (meh) Armstrong that we know him as.

The Fuhrer on the other hand, WOW, he looks 10 times meaner and 10 times more badass then the original. One thing I noticed is... the voice actor to Naruto in Shippudden seems to be the voice behind Ed..

I'll agree to the OP being amazing. I dont' care for the song though, the animation in it is superb though.
 
Hmm, since I haven't seen the first series of this (yeah, I know roflnoob gtfo etc.) I'm not sure if I'll follow the first episode, since it takes place somewhere in the previous anime.

I've seen both the OP & ED and I especially like the ED's song and hand-drawn art.

Ed is same voice as in FMA 1, so that'd mean Naruto had the same voice as ed, instead of the other way around.
The characters look the same, imo, But the boxes of what theyre thinking jumping out, isn't FMA at al.

Animation is for me nothing out of the ordinary. SE and Xam'd were much more unique animated. And they don't have any special ideas like Ef- a tale of memories. Which featured such great directorship that it was insane.
So for me Bones is just doing a regular job. They can do much better.

Er, I don't think that Naruto and Ed share the same voice actor. Romi Park is the voice actor and the only voice SHE (yes, I said she) does in naruto is Temari lol.
Who would have known eh?

I'm not sure If I'm going to like this new FMA spin off just because I'm such a big fan of the original. They have a very high bar to reach for me and I just don't think that's going to happen as I get the feeling they are just trying to milk the series at this point. Sometimes it's right to leave something alone and let people enjoy its greatness.

Do yourself a favor and watch the original before you watch this. Brotherhood will make more sense and you'll watch one of the best animes made (IMO)
 
There is some serious nitpicking going on here...anyway, overall if I had to choose between the two, I'd prefer how the original started because it doesn't jump right into the thick of the plot. On the other hand, I'd be pretty bored if they started once again with a side story.

Brotherhood looks good, and the pace it's moving at is pretty shocking. I don't like the fact that its episode count is indefinite and it will just follow the manga until the end. How is that even possible if they're introducing a new character?
 
i heard it was going to be a 52 ep run...

just saw number 1; it was alright... something was missing though. I don't know.. i just didn't "feel it" like i did right from the start of FMA the first time around. I'm trying to approach this not as a comparison but as a standalone anime. so I'll lay it out straight.

If i hadn't watched FMA and knew nothing about FMA... i would have dropped "brotherhood" on the spot after watching ep 1 today. It looked mediocre to completely uninteresting.

When i was forced to watch FMA the first time around, the show kept my attention from the start; and as it was my first anime, it was a little weird to get used to. but i overcame that pretty fast. this today wouldn't have kept my attention long enough to finish the episode had i seen this first.

So, while im not sure what's missing... and i admit the animation quality is strong... Im just aren't feeling the connection yet to the characters... too much fighting, too many character's introduced... not enough depth. I'm gonna hang with it; as i said, this is a first impression, and i've seen some pretty good anime, who's first ep wasn't all that great.

don't be ridiculous watch the ORIGINAL first the animation is basically the same BS is only slightly updated.

are you seriously trying to compare EF to FMA? how are they even in the same league? "FMA isn't telling its story like like EF?" no shit Sherlock and we should be happy about that.

anyway I'm sure most people will tell you watch the 1st series if you haven't already. And if you haven't already there's probably something wrong with your anime priorities so get to it.

What's the freaking point of BS anyway? I guess they just want to milk the franchise for more money. Someone at Bones (insert whoever owns FMA) was like, "Shit dawg don't you wish we could turn FMA into a Bleach or Naruto that will run forever and make us tons of money with action figures and video games we can release bi-yearly? What are we waiting for let's do it!"
 
No, you don't need to have seen the other series if you want to watch/understand this one. Whether or not you watch this one, you do need to see the other show if you enjoy top-shelf storytelling.

My sentiments exactly, though it's not unheard of to re-do a series once the manga's further along and base it on that (Hellsing/Hellsing OVAs). Still, since I like the (first) anime's structure, character development, and story better than the manga, I'm not sure what I'm going to get out of this new series. That said, I'm trying to approach this show with as fresh an outlook as I can. I watched episode one and it seems that they're jumping in at a different point than the start of the manga- I'm guessing because 1, it would then have the same open as the other series and 2, so many people are already somewhat familiar with the characters on account of the previous show and the manga being so popular. The animation and coloring is interesting (the backgrounds in particular), but they're really pushing it with the face-faults, goofy jokes and asides- it was a bit much imo. I didn't really get much of a sense of the main character's personalities beyond some gimmicky stuff. In general, this episode was overly busy and seemed very juvenile to me. That said, the action scenes in this series may be promising. Meh- I'm still going to watch it for now. See, look at me not specifically comparing it to the other show even though it's hard not to.

Yeah- it will be a sprawling shounen series, but I'm guessing they figured since they already have some source material (a sprawling, though somewhat above average, shounen manga) why not cash in?

And animation is better. FMA 1 wasnt 720p, which is a huge difference imo.
But it's definately not up to bones standards indeed.

but seriously, is Naruto cosplaying Edward? This was really bad, hopefully they just tried to cram a bunch of shit in so that people know the characters and know that ed hates being called short, and the real plot, character interaction, story structure, etc will start in ep2

being that I am streaming it on an ancient computer 720p or 10,000p is rather meaningless to me. My reaction was nothing was noticeably that different except maybe the backgrounds and Bradley looking a little more bad ass. I was hoping for WAY slicker character designs or more artistic "camera" angles and such.

FMA 2003 was a huge success and it is high up on a lot of people's list.
Just wait for the war cry when people start chiming in on this one. comparisons are bound to be the main discussion topic at first. sothis herself rated FMA a freaking 10 in the review section. No one knows what BS (bullshit) is gong to be like but I'd recommend the first series to anyone who hasn't seen it yet and yes, I will be watching BS until it goes all "naurto" on me if in fact it does.

I did enjoy that part where ed was like, "You just took a step closer to hell."
 
Sigh... watched this again and the OP song grew on me, especially around the parts from 1:33 to 2:00. And the scene with Bradley is so well done. I can't wait to see an older Winry too, since I've liked her in the FMA series from the get go

Is it just me or does Lust look evil as fuck now?
 
I'm all for more fullmetal alchemist! Don't really care if it's not as good as the original, cause it still seems fairly good. Plus the animation looks nice, and the fights look awesome.

Well, Fujiwara Keiji has played A LOT of Gundam roles in general. He did Eledore in 08th MS Team, Noventa in Wing, and Striker Eagle in V. He also plays Kimura in Hajime no Ippo (along in the new season), Reno in FF7: Advent Children, Sigint in MGS3, Drebin in MGS4, and a whole bunch of other characters.

I honestly don't like Miki Shin'ichiro as Mustang so far and part of it has to do with Mustang being my favorite character. I think the voice he uses as Ryosuke in Initial D could have so been perfect for Mustang and I don't get why he uses that one. And Miki Shin'ichiro I thought totally blew it as Rei in the new Hokuto no Ken movies. The guy is really missing on some roles he can really do well in and Mustang is now one of them.

I hope when it does get dubbed, they'll get the same cast to do it again since I thought the dub in the first series was very excellent. If not, then I'm going to go Ryan Drummond/Sonic fan boy up in this bitch.

This series in terms of story comes across as to the point with the action and gives it a fresh feel. Just the first episode, but I'll keep on watching it. I'm pretty sure this installment will also be 50 or so episodes.

The music is ok, but doesn't live up to great bands from the first season such as Porno Graffiti and L'Arc~En~Ciel, the 2nd greatest J-Rock band of all time behind X-Japan
 
I came back from seeing the first ep subbed, and it's pretty good. The OP and END were incredibly awesome, the characters were re-introduced well, given that this was half-filler, and the action was not that bad. I'll follow this one as well....
