School Days

Episodes 1-5

reminded me of a foreboding
DARKER Suzuka.
It leaves lots of clues as to where this is heading. At least I am getting an ominous feeling.
6-8
...Holy
I have not felt this
uncomfortable watching a relationship dissolve ugly since Orange Road's movie... and this one is much worse.

You know, I didn't even start hating Makoto until the 11th episode. Or maybe the 10th, I don't remember.

lol well, I suppose it would not take much.
Hell, half the cast is unlikable. ;)
I wanted to keep going, but I am going to have to finish it up tomorrow.

damn Work, gets in the way of my viewing!
*shakes fist at the alarm clock*

I would say that all of the cast was unlikeable (except maybe the nameless background characters. But even that is up for debate).

The Anti- Harem?
The Anti-Moe?
The Anti-Christ of anime?
(well maybe not that far...)
I will say this, I feel this is exactly how (minus the bloodbath) hearts and lives would be destroyed in a real harem. There is no such thing, because once you give the mind and body to someone, it is much MUCH more personal. Jelousy and fits of rage... and the broken soul are not easily mended. I was a bit shocked it was not the nut job that did the killing first.
Oh, and was Kohona the ONLY one he did not sleep with?
Now that would be irony. I suppose he could have that evening, but it happened very quickly that she left.
I almost think this should be shown to those too absorbed in the perfect romance story. And or, those who live and die by a harem anime ;)
Top Notch build up.
Top Notch 180 head plant.
4 out of 5.

He didn't sleep with Konoha's little sister! (Though I think he has the option to rape her in one of the game versions )

He didn't sleep with that chick who had a boyfriend. Whatever her name was. The one who crashed to the ground when they were showing what happened in the sekrit room.

As I mentioned in a long PM to therik (probably this show's greatest advocate on these forums), I was disappointed in the ending. Here's my reasoning, feel free to flame away:

I felt that Makoto gets off easy, since he doesn't really demonstrate improvement before getting axed. I never really bought that the mass rejection and his witnessing Kotonoha's state brought him around to the side of light. I had him pegged for going with the girl that he knew would accept him and carried no extra baggage.

Of course, your interpretation depends entirely on your opinion of Makoto. I am unwilling to give him the benefit of the doubt. therik tends to read his initial character as naive and innocent, placing the blame for his descent on the vile temptations shoved in his face over the course of the series. He never quite had me at the beginning, and so I'm inclined to disagree with this interpretation. I would have thought that a decent human being would have paused to decide between the two girls at some point (I have been in a similar situation and found that you have to make a decision). When he made it seem like he didn't need to decide, it was pretty clear to me that he was only looking out for number 1. That tasteless off-hand comment he makes in what appears to be a science lab about, "it was before I knew any better" in relation to Sekai's pregnancy read to me like an expression of his actual underlying character, not the utterances of a boy who had merely gone astray.

Consequently, I thought he died confused, and not full of remorse. In the end, the only one I feel sorry for is Kotonoha, who sails off into the sunset completely mistaken about the true nature of her decapitated lover.

He just gets more and more
callous to everyone the more sex he has. In fact the more meaninless the sex becomes, the more he could care less who he hurts. What I like, is he is mentioned earlier as a "nice" guy. and had good morals at one point... but once he started crossing that line, he could not stop... no he did not want to stop.

So was there or was there not a baby?

I would not put it past him LOL he was wondering around after her at the airport or something wasn't he?

He learned his lesson like right at the end, tries to do the right thing and wham. Dead.

The sad thing is he was becoming my hero until about mid way, i was in the mindset, man that guy apparently went from zero to hero, but then he became a dick.
still a good show though, i wish i could get the whole thing on dvd.
the 2 ovas after are kinda a mind screw, went from that ending to cutesy again......

when does the awesome start? I'm on episode 5 and i'm pretty tempted to just drop this because so far its just a below average rom-com with shameless fanservice.
pSince I'm expecting something horrific to happen I'm wondering if its even worth it since the shock factor wont be there.

ps: is it me or does kotohana's breasts get bigger each episode?

Stick with it! If you don't like it at the end, you can rant against it's cult following. This, my friend, is what we call a win-win.

The problem is, on it's entry on the main site, Elfen Lied is the second most rec-ed series. Even without reading the recs, it's kind of a spoiler if you know anything at all about EF, or any of the other gory series that it's also rec-ed too.

I think being part of the anime community pretty much means being spoiled on school days, if even a little bit. I was lucky enough to watch it before hearing anything about it.

...they might as well have made this into a hentai series (because if I'm not mistaken its based off an H-game) and it would have been good for a porno...

If this was made as hentai, and someone watched and enjoyed it as such, I would have serious doubts about their mental health. (Well, about the last bits at any rate)

I was told about it, and I still enjoyed it, I tried to look at it from a mindset of originality at first.

Obviously the end will probably be meh to you with this (OMG ENDING!) sort of expectation already implanted.

To be honest I found the events leading up to the end even more entertaining. It is like a drum that beats inevitablitity. And the episodes from the festival onward are where the story gets any meat from. So quickly it divirges from
cute to sick. What never happens in a harrem or love triangle anime?
The characters actually have sex. Usually it is a dance till the end.
Also you never see the mental scars of cheating.. this one has it.
The romp of fluff is forever twisted.

Agreed In fact, what normally would be fanservice titillating for a male, is somewhat
gross, and makes you want to take a shower. Somehow, the director in this show, makes you feel really bad about what this boy, and the bevel of so called school mate girls are up too.
By the time he is having an orgy with those 3 girls your actually happy they do not show anything more than a door closeing, because your squirming in your chair from uncomfortably.
In fact none of the "scenes" are very fun to see, I mean in all reality it does not show much, but the implications are grimy ...
Reminds me of Perfect Blue.

well i meant it would be a porno with an actual plot and even a moral message and the scenes would have been considered worth watching so it would be considered good (because that would be quite a feat for a hentai), I think you guys seem to be forgetting that this is based off a hentai game in the first place

edit:

K i finished it, if it ended with
this ending
according to video description:
"It's ending form the game. Makoto has chosen Kotonoha to be his lover, but one night Satsuna brings him to Sekai. She don't know about his presence and confess her feelings. Makoto changes his mind realizing that he has been hurting Sekai."
then I stand by my above statement, all in all the ending was still shocking but since i was watching the show especially to see what the big commotion was about the rest was a drag.

This could have been done as a 2 hour movie or a 4-6 episode OVA and I probably would have rated it a 4/5 but in the end it gets a 1.5/5 in my books (.5 for the ending, its only [the ending] a disappointment because
its only a few minutes long, and wasn't worth sitting through 12 eps

if you watching this anime and not enjoying it and only continuing for the ending, just drop it or read episode summaries and skip directly to the end, watching the full thing isn't worth it.

It was done as a 6 part ONA http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=6321
