Daily Anime Thoughts

DAT:

PRO:Being at home sick for the better part of the week has meant I've been bingeing on Gintama.

CON: I've smashed through around ep. 237-ish up to 293.

Facing the prospect of running out of Gintama to watch is the sweetest sorrow I've faced in a long, long time... ;_;

SO MANY AMAZING ARCS! And even the third season's recap eps were well-chosen, IMO. I really enjoyed rewatching most of them. I didn't really expect to actually sit through them all.

I think Yoshiyuki Tomino lost his marbles. That or he is another George Lucas, where after his initial success he was surrounded by yes man. Looking at all his work past 1990 and none of them are any damn good.

Well he did suffer depression during most of the 90's. Still think Turn A is one of his best works post UC.

Just had to move a bunch of posts from this thread to their appropriate anime threads. If your post is about a specific show even if it's just to say you're watching it or to say the new season sucks and needs to step up it's game then please use the specific anime section or the currently airing section.

These are good examples of the kind of posts that belong in this thread.

Also, the Type Moon discussion is good fodder for this thread because it's talking about their body of work in general rather than a specific anime/manga/whatevs.

Have no idea what to watch to make my 400 anime, have been catching up on some Dusk Maiden Of Amnesia but I don't really want that to be my 400 anime watchdd

I wish I cared more about my milestones, but after the 7ooth anime was Maiden Rose... well, I kind of stopped caring too much.

DAT: There are way too many anime that are short episode. Trying to organize all of them on one list is a pain in the butt.

DAT: Full Rurouni Kenshin DVD collection is nearly complete! Just nabbed the OVA collection and the movie. Awaiting confirmation on (a hopefully reasonably priced) vol 20, which has been the biggest pain to get hold of, and that will be it. Parcels of joy have already started arriving from last week's efforts. Yay!

My obsession with completeness... *cough*and samurai*cough*... is going to be a very happy camper. ^_^

DAT: "Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm", eh? Lesse' here... Ah, yup, source material is porn.
Always funny to see anime being made of series like this, where the MC has some game in the source, but is just another hapless harem protag in the anime.
Just like that one jousting anime.

Interestingly, from what I've heard because I dropped it four episodes in, the MC in Ao no Kanata is more of a support character and never gets a harem. He's just kinda around offering guidance. The focus is almost 100% on sports, training, and growing closer to rivals/teammates. It seems like it's gonna set up romance in the first few episodes because
the main girl is childhood friends with the protagonist but neither remembers. At the end of the anime, the girl just goes, "Oh well, whoever my childhood friend was, that's not important; it's all in the past" basically.
. The sport itself is sorta interesting (essentially tag in the sky) but what I watched was boring. What it comes down to is mostly cute girls doing sports awkwardly but gradually becoming the best.

And then being plowed by the MC. At least in the source material.
Like, he gets all two dozen or so of them if he wants. Jayzus.
But yes, when one of the source material's bigger selling points is the girls being banged by the MC, then trying to turn it into an anime about the MC not banging the girls usually makes the resulting anime... really boring.
I don't get why they even bother. I can't recall any major success stories about any series like that in recent years.
I guess they're just desperate for "Girls in costumes with convoluted powers in school settings" IP in order to jump on the bandwagon of all that shit that's been overflowing the industry lately.

DAT : for some reason listening to a really good anime opening/ending it makes me Tap into my Nostalgia & watch a really good anime :-;

Especially when I listen to Paradise kiss opening & heavens memo pad ending.
