thinking of removing the picture site: thoughts?

it isn't used much anymore, though i'd like for the stuff to not be totally gone. what people could do instead is put a picture in their profile here (it's a feature in vbulletin). i could also add custom profile fields for the info in the picture site (favorite anime is already here). birthdays are here too, as well as location.

this way, 1) i don't have to maintain the picture site anymore... 2) it's more realistic having the pictures here in the forum. this way as well, people have full control over switching them, etc. 3) i can get rid of a database i have set up, making my life easier ;)

what do you guys think? the picture site is the original reason this site was created back in the day... i just feel like now it might have lost its context, and if people can post the same info in here, it might make more sense.

I still love the site though. Not using it much, but then it's not a type of a site you'd use much. So imo it's a keeper unless it taxes your space too heavily.

I think you are a busy soul and that you should make the adjustment if it will relieve some of your burden. Since there is an alternative to just letting it go, there is all the more reason to make the switch.

yeah, the key is my busy-ness.... i have some pictures that have needed to be added for months, but its so low on my priority list that i dont know if i'll ever add them. also, i could then remove "extras' from the button bar and have room to put something else like "dvd reviews" etc

so yeah, for me its mostly a i'd be VERY happy if it was gone thing, cause its one less thing to maintain... people could control it themselves in here.

I agree with Wolfco... because we have the option within VBulliten to add pics and all the info from the pic site, I don't think it should be a very big deal.

i kinda like yoru suggetion as to how to handel it sothis being able to manage that kind of think ourselves ina limited fashion like how the current vbulliten set up is would be a great idea

Plus it shifts workload from You to us, making it easier to keep it up to date without wasting your precious time.

this probably is an add on i could get for free or buy if people wanted to donate, ill look into it at some point :)

for now, can you guys test to make sure the picture functionality is even working?

It appears to work, and it seems to work both by uploading it from your computer or by hosting it with a URL. I can't find anyone else who has used this option but when I log out and click on my own profile it shows the picture right up at the top opposite my avatar. I don't know if I like the fact that there is a picture of me anywhere on the net though. Other people need to do this damnit, lol.
