this is a bit of a different contest, but niceguy suggested i make one because then everyone can participate.
i want a savannah cat, badly. i have finally decided to save up to buy one (these things are EXPENSIVE, as in multi thousands). no comments about how stupid that is, anything like that, or you are automatically disqualified for the contest ;) anyways, since they are so expensive, i am thinking of asking lisa (the woman i've been talking to at the place in washington) if i could do web projects for her in exchange for the price being dropped somewhat. their website is decent, but bare and database projects or something unusual might sweeten the deal. so, i'll give a promo poster (see here for pictures) to all the people that come up with the project ideas i decide to bring up to her. the "best" idea will get a theme as well. here is the site: http://www.simplysavannah.net i already have an idea for a picture gallery, but if you can come up with features that would be unique for this kind of site, tell me and it can count as a project. even if someone has come up with a project idea, and you can think of a feature to add, say it, because i could probably send you a poster too! so, have at it. this will run till i think i have enough ideas, and i am seeing her tomorrow, so type quick! these need to be projects that would help out a site like this.. a breeder site. so think of what content they might want, thats a special plus. |

well, maybe a system to track the pedigrees would be cool. I assume that the breeders keep such information... umm, what else...? I notice on the site it says no kittens available at this time. maybe something that would track when there would be kittens, and who the parents of the incoming kittens are. a system for feedback from owners would probably be good too. I don't know what kind of "features" you would want to know for the cats, stuff like color, ear size, tail crookedness, I dunno. but that kind of stuff may be DB-able too. *shrug*

the idea i like the most here is the "expected birth" type thing. i could perhaps have a script where they give the date they figured out the cat was pregnant, and it automatically comes up with an approximate birth date (give or take a few months). simple, but still automated!

I would add some kind of "History section", giving a brief run down of how the Savannah came to be and perhaps a little about the Servals, Bengals, and other large breed house cats. "Suggested Care" section would be nice too... alot of people don't know how to take care of a Savannah and get into a problem because they don't realize that if there new pet escapes from there house, the chances of it being shot or killed are pretty good. Not many people know about this kind of cat and would be all too quick to open fire on "the escaped tiger" or what-have-you. Not to mention that a lot of people like to know what they have been eating for treats, meals, and what ever else they have in there indiviual personalities. You already mentioned image gallery. Past Customer feedback, so I might be able to get into the sight and read some of the happy stories people have relating to there Savannah. The Pedigree thing would be nice too, I think a chart showing all the kittens like a family tree. They also need to describe terms like Serval, Savannah, all the "F#'s", and any of the other terms most laymen would not know... not all people that want one of these beauties are very educated on what exactly they are. Well that's is my two cents, and I hope it helps there sight. They seem pretty cool... I'll have to find the one website for the group that sells 'em here for you.

rofl, these are domesticated, not wild :D
codeword: i 100% will bring up the "suggested care" and explanations of terms and all that jazz, because i had to look that up myself and it made NO sense till i found a few sites. can you guys explain the pedigree thing a bit more? the chart? customer testimonials i think is a must |

The pedigree chart would just be like a normal family tree for people. They name a few of there females and a few studs, so they should have a little "tree" showing which of the kittens were sired by who as well as there mother. That way if someone really loves a certain female they can see which of the kittens will most likely share traits with her or same thing with the males. There should also probably be a small amount of info about each of the breeders they have, such as info about there mentality, attitude towards people or children, what there fav foods are and such so people who don't know anything about them can kind of plan on what they will need to be giving them or at least what the kittens may like.

It would be cool if you can add like a tracking system to pin point the location of where the future available kittens are at right at this moment. But that seems a little too much. And there should be like a section where it teaches you on the basics and advance carement for your new kittens, like what exercise they need, the right amount of food given each day, and most importantly how to control your kittens.
