At the moment the five animes with the most recommendations are displayed - if they have an equal number, the oldest is given preference. All others are linked via popup at the bottom.
This is slightly discouraging for me at the moment as only recommendations that conform with existing opinion or those for little known series are really going to be read. I propose the top 20 or so next are displayed in plain form on one line, with link but no screenshot or description. This means the average user will have instant access to a much wider range of opinions, with in my mind can only be a good thing - especially as many users are likely to come and look primarily at the popular animes - which in general at the moment have conventional and uninspiring recommendations that might not suit all tastes/provide new information. Having more choices displayed immediately would help here, I'm sure. Eg of one line format: Cat Soup - OVA - 1 Episode - 2 votes - ![]() Rar |
i disagree, because i want people to immediately have the pictures in front of them.. makes it more pleasing to the eye, as well as maybe pulling someone in to what is on the list.
in addition, if they click 20 links, that brings up 20 anirec database entry pages, which means 20 times the bandwidth just to look up recommendations for one series. and at 30 gigs a month already, that isn't very exciting ;) |
oh, also, then it will look exactly like animenfo's system, which is a big no no ;) i strove to not have it be that format

 I want at least a *chance* of people having a look at what I've written...

Mafk! Double post while I was writing! Fair enough about the look of the site... You got any alternative suggestions?
Rar [Edit: Triple would just be cheaky - how about giving newest rec preference when there are equal numbers?] |
i personally dont have any alternative suggestions, because i like the system how it is :p ... i think people need to learn to click the "see all" link, because yeah, ones that have the same number might go off the page.
but as far as popular series, i don't necessarily think "conventional votes" (whatever that means in this instance) are bad... rahxephon / eva is certainly a reasonable pair, and there are many newbies who havent really seen any of this stuff, so it's still a good rec. i'd like to think if people like the database, they'd use the see all link and look for the fewer votes. im not sure what having the most recent recced series first would accomplish... if i watch a series 6 months ago and someone watches one now and votes for a different one, im not seeing why that one should have precedence over mine. its a first come first serve thing... the sooner votes show up higher ;) |
