so, i'm thinking of getting rid of the quotes page. with all the stuff going on with the site and my personal life, i just don't have the time to add quotes a lot. nor the desire, because it doesn't get used much.
so i'm going to put this offer on the table for discussion. what should i do with the quotes page? some important things should be brought up. 1. does anyone even care enough about it to try to preserve it? 2. is there anyone willing to take a copy of the quotes table and run it on their own site? i could provide you with the object code to get quotes out of the database, the (primitive and crappy) form i use to input them, and a backup of the table. you'd have to have mysql/php on your server, and i'd have to know you are serious about maintaining this. if i give this to someone for safekeeping, they need to be dedicated enough to keep it alive. dist is busy just like me, and out of bandwidth, so it going on that site is out of the question. suggestions and comments here would be appreciated. |

Oh - I am actually pretty fond of the quotes page and visits in with (ir)regular intervalls. I for one am in favour of keeping it. Frankly - I am pretty surprised you are even considering it - allthough I sympathize with the time aspect of it of course.

yeah, at this point, i am almost positive i'd at least want to offload it to someone else. i like reading the old quotes, but i also don't want to have to update it, and a big one is that i don't want potential clients seeing it and wondering what kind of sites we make. (since anime planet is linked from our company page, since the database IS impressive and all)
i already dedicate so much to the site, i'd like to find someone to take this one part over so i don't kill myself of being spread too thin ;) |

I'm agreeing with Flim here. that quotes page is priceless. Since I think it gives, in addition to the chat logs, a terrific image what the community is about. Since the site still has a community section, I'd say keep it.
If you cannot maintain it, especially due to your now job as webdesigner (if I may be as free to call it that way), I can get into that. I am, however, quite sure there will be loads of volunteers for it. A main issue could indeed be where to put it. Maybe you can get Distman as mad to take it on him. |

well, just to add my thoughts from the discussion we recently had.
nothing wrong with outsourcing the quotespage. i could think of either just a simple quotes thread on Dists forum or another place on his server or someone elses, or maybe a quotes bot which is just in the channel to add quotes. it could be also that only ops/mods/vips can add worthy quotable stuff. another way could be to assign mods to view the quotes before they get onto the page. |

As a simple suggestion, as you already have a 'Quotes' forum, just have a couple of stickies of the shorter ones at the top, and let the admins edit to keep 'em up to date. Seems an easier option than having a whole new site, will be searchable, and I doubt many clients will be wandering round in here. Rar |

I agree with kman here - people outside the community are not interested in the quotes page, but if they're in, no problem. So simply make a forum here that everyone who is registered on the board can enter, anyone else can't. Maybe you'd also want to hide the forum from non-registered users, shouldn't be a problem. I like that idea much better than moving the quotes page off the site...
