Default thinking of adding two features to the anime rec db, read!

first of all, both of these features would probably require you to be logged in to the site... not necessarily logged in to VOTE (that would still require me to activate you), but basically if you have a forum account, you'd need to login to use these features. if you had voting capabilities you could do that too.

two things:

1. some sort of small icon or X with each recommendation. basically, if you clicked this next to a series, that series wouldn't show up again in any rec lists. this way, if the top rec for a lot of romance series is AMG, and youve seen it, it wouldnt show up again. id probably have to make something where you could undo this feature as well.

2. a report function. this would probably be a small icon next to each person's name in the comments boxes. if you think the comment sucks (i am going back through and deleting bad comments and editing others for grammar/spelling, like i mentioned previously), you could just hit the button, and it would email me the comment so someone could go check it out. for abuse purposes, you'd probably need to be logged in for this to happen as well... i would probably get the username in an email so that way someone couldnt just be a jackass and go click it for every comment ;)

thoughts/ideas?

1 sounds like a neat idea, but I wouldn't stress over implementing it in a hurry. 2 sounds really usefull, then you won't have to spend as much time looking for bad reccomendations, similar to this would be a kind of "helpfullness" rating, kind of like how reviews on amazon work.

i think second option would be a good idea and will probably make maintenance of db a bit easier and allow a better looking/sounding recommendations.

Though i'm unsure about the the first one; personally i wouldn't mind if something i've already seen keeps reapeatedly appearing among 3-4 new recomendation, or even if you get more of something you've seen than something that you didn't. I mean how much resources does one hit consume when it keeps reappearing? How much effort do you have to put in so you don't get the same result over and over again? Also, not knowing much about web design/programming, won't this feature require just as many resources for a certain hit not to appear as for it to be displayed? Is there any other gain besides not seeing some recomendations over and over? Will search completion and page download occur significantly faster if you get 3 hits instead of 4? 2 instead of 5?

that 2nd idea is very similar to one that was used at another forum I go to.
It worked kinda like a card system, similar to soccer. Except there were 4 cards. I can't remember what they were all for now.
Anyway, that sounds like a good idea. Though I haven't really seen any spamming or flaming here yet
I think something like that will keep people aware though

Hmmm. I agree with Johan. I scroll easily too.

Proposition #2 can be quite usefull, tho. That way you, Sothis, could save lots of time. As long as it's inabusable I'm all for it.

Would you require a reason for the person to say the comment is bad? Or perhaps it would require a certain number of people to mark it as "bad" before it's removed?

its problably just a heads up..so if 1person mark the "comment" as bad/spellcheck sothis will just click the link and check it and make the change or delete it

well it doesnt have anything to do with spamming or flaming... there are a lot of comments from when the database was first created which really suck (cause i wasnt very strict on what a "good" comment was)... ive had to go through and delete a lot, but im sure i missed a lot.

odds are i wouldnt make you fill out a form or anything.. youd just click a button and the notice would be sent automatically.

what about a report function (but a form this time) for the database entries themselves?

it probably would be another icon next to "series review thread" and "fansub quality comparison" down there... you could fill it out if, lets say, theres a spelling error in a description, or you think the description is choppy or inaccurate (again, could happen with some of hte original ones)... or maybe the # of episodes is listed wrong, or listed as ? because it was a new series and now the # is known.

like this idea? i think i do
