Kenshin (to be listed with Kenshin, both OVAs, and the movie if I put it up)
submitted by: me! Suggested order of viewing: -Kenshin TV series through Kyoto Arc -Kenshin OVA 1 -Rest of Kenshin TV series -Kenshin OVA 2 -Kenshin Movie sometime before Kyoto Arc, though any time would be fine. Extended Information: Kenshin TV Series: Released in 1996 The Kenshin TV series is 95 episodes, and was the first of anything Kenshin to be released. The series has 3 notable sections, with the arguably "best" part being the Kyoto Arc, which is the middle third of the episodes. The Kyoto Arc is a great deal more serious and plot-driven than the other two thirds, though the other episodes do contain a great deal of character development which some argue is essential to enjoying the OVAs. Some people would say that watching the last 30 or so episodes after the Kyoto Arc, is optional. After the Kyoto Arc was aired on television, the Kenshin manga was not finished. Instead of taking a break, for more manga to be released, the script for the rest of the episodes was essentially made up, not following the manga. These episodes do provide character development, but many disliked them anyways. Kenshin Movie: Released in 1997 The Kenshin Movie is essentially like a long episode. The plot is completely seperate from the TV series, though it takes place in Yokohama, which is visited by Kenshin and the gang before the Kyoto Arc. Because of this, you might enjoy watching it before the Kyoto Arc, but it is not necessary. Any time in the series is OK, although probably not after the second OVA (for obvious reasons that you will know after you watch it). Kenshin OVA 1 - "Tsuikohen" or "Reminiscence" - Released in 1999 Both Kenshin OVA 1 and 2 have a very different animation style and character design than the TV series/movie. In general, the tone of both of these is MUCH more serious and dark. The first OVA takes place 10 years before the events of the TV series, while Kenshin is still known as the Himura Battousai. It also focuses on his relationship with a woman named Tomoe. While some people would argue that this could be watched at any point before or after the TV series, I would highly suggest you wait until the end of the Kyoto Arc. The reason being, by this point, you will already have seen a great deal of character development for Kenshin, and understand the type of person he is, the sacrifices he makes, and his values. This makes the OVA much, much more powerful than it would be had you watched it without seeing the TV series, for example. In addition, some would argue that if you watch the beautiful animation style of the OVA first, that you will be "spoiled", and will not appreciate the TV series quite so much. Kenshin OVA 2 - Seisouhen: Released in 2001 The second OVA is the same animation style as the first, and takes place years after the TV series. The first episode is mostly flashbacks (in the newer animation style). The second episode covers an entire arc in the manga (which many people felt was too rushed, and were unhappy with it), and also finishes the Kenshin legacy. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you do not watch this OVA until you are finished watching anything else Kenshin that you have to watch. If you plan on never watching the TV series, make sure you watch the first OVA or movie before this OVA. To get the best effect, it is strongly suggested that you watch the TV series, at least through the Kyoto Arc, and the first OVA before viewing this.

This Crest of the Stars information was submitted by Taltamir (and I added some stuff). It is fairly brief, so if anyone has anything to add, please post it in here.
--- Crest of the Stars, aka Seikai no Monshou is the first of the series. It focuses primarily (and fully) on Jinto and Lafiel, and their quest to get where they are going. Battle Flag (or Banner) of the Stars aka Seikai no Senki is the second season of the saga, and is often misnamed Crest of the Stars II. It has a different tone than the first series, in the sense that the story revolves around many battles in space, and many people, not just Jinto and Lafiel. Some people consider it the most interesting for this reason. The third season is called Battle Flag (or Banner) of the Stars II aka Seikai no Senki II. Its events switch between Lafiel in space, and Jinto on the planet. (This will make sense once you watch the series). Seikai no Dansho OVA is Lost Chapter of the Stars a.k.a. Birth / special / movie. It is a standalone that can be watched before or after the rest. Seikai no Dansho contains the events that precede the first season. but was created after the last, and it contains spoilers and parts that will not be understood unless you have watched the rest of the series first.

Tenchi - to be listed for all Tenchi things in the database.
submitted by: Devilbunny This is fairly lengthy so I might cut some parts out.. let me know if you think anything here would be ok to throw out (I took out character information since it added a lot of space) ----- Though the background story and roles of each character change throughout the different Tenchi series, their attitudes and personalities stay the same. Some series, such as the OAV series focus on the comedy element, whereas other series like the Tenchi in Tokyo series focus on the drama and character development. Quick little hierarchy and timeline (note, OAV and Universe are different 'universes' as it were, where characters have different backstories): OAV(OAV & OAV2) 13 eps | |-- OAV3 (immediately after OAV, before the movies, I think) ? eps | |-- Movies 1,2,3 | |-- Tenchi Muyo GXP (any time before or after any of the movies) 26 eps Universe 26 eps | |-- Mihoshi Special & *Pretty Sammy OAV's 4 eps | |-- *Magical Project S 26 eps | |-- Tenchi in Tokyo 26 eps If you wanted a viewing order, I would watch in the following order: Tenchi Muyo OAV (13 eps) Tenchi Universe (26 eps) Mihoshi Special (1 ep) Tenchi in Tokyo (26 eps) Movies 1,2,3 Tenchi Muyo GXP (26 eps) * - The pretty sammy OAV's and Magical Project S can be held separate from the rest, as they do not require knowledge of previous characters, or are referenced by other series. The OAV's, in particular, often have trouble referencing themselves in a comprehensible manner. This is also why they do not appear in the view order list above. -------------------------------------------------------- OAV: 13 episodes In Tenchi Muyo OAV, Tenchi accidentally awakens a mummified Ryoko from his Grandfather's shrine, and then ends up playing host the pair of Jurai Princesses Ayeka and Sasami, after a short space duel with Ryoko that ends in a crash. Mihoshi falls to the ground in one of her 0-point landings not long after, and Washu is not introduced until half of the 13 part series is over, when she's rescued from Kagato's ship. Speaking of Kagato, we have two primary bad guys in this series, Kagato and Queen Tokimi. The first 6 episodes deal primary with Kagato, while the latter half of the series ~tends~ to focus on Tokimi. It sort of slides around a little. You may see the 'OAV' series split into two parts, with the first six episodes labeled as OAV, and the remainder labeled as OAV2. Remember this, because you'll be seeing OAV3 later! -------------------------------------------------------- Tenchi Universe: 26 episodes Have you ever gotten a 'blue screen of death' and had to reboot your computer? Well, it's time to reboot what you read above about the Tenchi OAV series (and keep that switch handy, cause it's going to come up a lot). Tenchi Universe starts fresh, with Tenchi getting home from school, and seeing a spaceship crash! He saves a potentially drunk and overly-friendly Ryoko from the wreckage and then they combat a mechanized monster that turns out to be Mihoshi. Ayeka flies onto the scene, responding to Mihoshi's distress call, and this time around, Washu ends up being the monster in Tenchi's Grandfather's shrine, imprisoned as a super-criminal! We're introduced to a new character, Kiyone, Mihoshi's surprisingly capable partner, and last, Sasami just 'drops in' to pick up her sister. So, things certainly have changed, but we're not done yet. Midway through the series, episodes 12-14, Washu creates a 'time and space' dimension machine, where everyone's roles are switched around; in one, Mihoshi and Tenchi are married and Sasami is their child, in another, Tenchi and Ryoko play Bonnie and Clyde in America, in the 1920's. This short arc also introduces us to 'Pretty Sammy: Magic Girl', and forms the basis for the Mihoshi Side-story special later on. The rest of the series revolves around our old pal, Kagato, and how he's taking over the planet and government of Jurai. After Tenchi's house is installed in a space ship, the whole crew, even Tenchi's dad, go whirling off into space to stop it. The Tenchi Universe series is often labeled in 3 parts; Tenchi on Earth (eps 1 - 10), Time and Space Adventures I - III (eps 11-13), and Tenchi in Space (eps 14-26). From what I understand, this series more or less mirrors the original Tenchi Manga. -------------------------------------------------------- Tenchi Muyo: Mihoshi Special (1 ep) && Tenchi Muyo: Magical Girl Pretty Sammy OAV (3 eps) These 4 episodes are side-story spin-offs from the "Time and Space Adventures" series. The first focuses on Mihoshi's past and her previous exploits as a Galaxy Police member. The other three focus on Sasami in her role as Magical Girl Pretty Sammy. We'll talk more about Pretty Sammy in the section below, 'Magical Project S'. I've bunched these two together because not only are they both come from the same 3 episode story arc in Tenchi Universe, but also because they're often packaged this way. -------------------------------------------------------- Magical Project S: 26 episodes Welcome to another remake of the entire Tenchi universe! This series is based on an entirely different premise than the other series, and focuses wholly on Sasami, aka Pretty Sammy. It is interesting to note that though the Tenchi series to this point often revolved in part around sexual tension, it was more or less safely in the "G" rating. The series 'Magical Project S' didn't even have the sexual tension, and was as pure as the driven snow, but the official merchandise was often not; Panty shots on wall scrolls, bath-time 'fun' posters, sleeping in bed & partially naked stills, etc. This trend was enhanced and exploited in later series, notably Tenchi Muyo: GXP, which was pure cheesecake. -------------------------------------------------------- Tenchi Muyo in Love (Movie 1) After all the commercial excitement of the previously listed series, the audiences were still hungry for more, thus, the Movie Tenchi Muyo in Love. This movie is based on the Tenchi Muyo OAV series, and has very little to do about Tenchi Muyo actually being in love. It focuses on his mother and the past. There are small bits of confusion here though. This series includes Kioyne, though she wasn't in the OAV series, but the Universe series. However, references are made to the fact that Ryoko was the one freed from the tomb (as in the OAV series!). So which is it? Both? -------------------------------------------------------- Tenchi Muyo Daughter of Darkness (Movie 2) This takes place after the events in Movie 1, and focuses on a little omnipotent girl, Yuzuha, who - in short - just likes causing trouble. She reminds me a bit of Yuugi from the Tenchi in Tokyo series, but the two are not the same. A new character is added to the cast, Mayuka, who ends up being a temporary creation, much like Saykua from Tenchi in Tokyo (see below). -------------------------------------------------------- Tenchi Muyo Forever (Movie 3) Descriptive title, huh? After all this excitement, Tenchi goes for a walk and gets sucked in by a tree and disappears for 6 months. Ryoko and Ayeka find him, with no memory of them, or much at all, aside from his new love interest, Haruna. She's the only 'new' character in this movie. -------------------------------------------------------- Tenchi in Tokyo : 26 episodes Some time between the first and second Tenchi Movies, this series was created. It seems that this series is based after the Tenchi Universe series. Tenchi goes to college in Tokyo, and some strange evil girl/demon named 'Yuugi' is trying to drive apart all the girls and Tenchi, for ... well.. no good reason. Something about crystals and magnetic forces and ..well.. I guess she's just a nasty bitch. This series also introduces a new character, Saykua, who actually comes closer to being Tenchi's girlfriend than any other girl in the series. -------------------------------------------------------- Tenchi Muyo GXP (Galaxy Police Transporter): 26 episodes his series switches our attention from the every day problems of Tenchi and the gaggle of girls following him around, to the every day problems of a boy named Seina Yamada, and the gaggle of girls that follow him. In short, this series has more fan service and cheesecake shots than any other Tenchi series. Many die-hard Tenchi fans cried 'sell-out', and stopped hoping for the promised continuation of the original OAV series (OAV3) because they didn't want it to devolve into this. This isn't a spoiler, but he's 'forced' to marry all 4 girls in the end, after all. -------------------------------------------------------- Tenchi Muyo OAV3 Ryo-Ohki: 2+ episodes (still in production) Tenchi Muyo OAV3 is the continuation of the OAV series (or OAV and OAV2 if you prefer). After 8 years of waiting, the fans were not just rabid, but actually spitting up blood-flecked foam and cutting shapes into their skin. We're finally back to worrying about Lady Tokimi and her nebulous plans to mess with other people's stuff, sometimes. So far, there's only been one episode released, with the trailer for the second out. A trailer, for one episode of an OAV series ... like I said, the fans are insane.

Lupin III
suggested viewing order first contact tv episode two OR manga chaper 7 after that all of the tv episodes manga chapters movies and OVAs may be watched in any order. Interesting information Lupin III was NOT an original character of monkey punch but rather based off of the character arsine lupin of the french novelist Maurice Leblanc. it is for this reason that even offcial releases of Lupin movies outside of japan are called Rupan Sansei despite even backgrounds in the movies themselves that say lupin. It is also the reason that the few movies that reached france carried the name Edgard de la Cambriole. The Lupin series was originaly VERY serialzed in its manga form and many of the recurring characters show up are killed off and show up again but as it continued on the vuagest of continuality is added to the series.

X Movie
This movie is another story about the struggle against the destruction of humanity. The movie follows Kamui and the other six dragons of heaven while they fight the seven dragons of earth with spiritual powers. The focus of the movie is on kamui and, his best friend since childhood, Fuma. The other 12 characters are not much to the story though due to lack of development they are basically names and about 5 min back stories. This movie was made in 1999 (before the TV series). X TV - 26 eps. The TV series follows the same basic plot as the movie but with a greater emphasis on character development, focusing of each character and how they fit into the story as an individual this allows for a greater plot twists and situations not found in the movie. Along with the characters the plot is taken to another level through the character's back story. It also offers a few major plot twists that are not present in the movie and amplify the climax that is the conclusion. |

TENCHI MUYO ( Ithink this is the 10:th time i write this)
Correct watching order: Timeline 1: 1. Tenchi OAV 1 and 2 (basicly tenchi oav ep 1 - 13) then OAV3 kicks in (an OAV 4 is planned aswell) Timeline 2: Tenchi Universe (26 eps) + movie 1 movie 2 movie 3 ends the universe timeline People argue wheter movie 2 actually belongts to the universe timeline and not tenchi in tokyo timeline. I* leave that up to you tho. I haven't seen any proof on the movie belonging to tokyo. perhaps a standalone movie sortof. Timeline3: Tenchi in Tokyo - 26 eps Other: Tenchi Muyo GXP. Supposed to take place a couple of years after OAV3. Ackording to some sources (Freakzilla) this series explains some things to come in OAV3 Mihoshi is seperate focusin on mihoshio and her life. PRetty sammy is a spinoff from one of the alternate rellities which will be presented in a couple of eps in Tenchi muyo Universe. Basicly a very err very sugary magical girl anime series --- SLAYERS watching order Slayers Excellent OAV (3 ep): This is where it all starts, Lina meets Naga and such Slayers Special (also called Book of Spells) (3Ep) More wickid adventures with Lina and Naga. Some releases (first and foremost the english versios) are only listed as two epidodes. This is because the first ep holds both ep 1 and 2. - alright, time for the movies: Slayers Perfect (1) Slayers Return (2) Slayers Great (3) Slayers Gorgeous (4) This is where the adventures with Naga ends. All movies are stand-alone and can basicly be watched in any possible order. - alright, time for the TV seasons. This is where Lina meet Goury and the other gang. Slayers TV (26ep) Slayers NEXT (26ep) Slayers TRY (26) TV seasons ends here - A last movie was released, only 30 mins long. Naga actually has 5 secs or so of airtime in this movie Slayers Premium (Movie 5) All in all, the OAV:s are tied togheter and should be watched in the suggested order. The movies can be watched in any order as they're stand-alone but I sitll recommend to follow the order specified. The TV series are tied togheter and shoudl also be watche dint eh suggested watching order. There ya go. I dont have the time to write any comprehensive descriptions but this should be better than nothing ATM

guess i'll cover the .hack universe
suggested watching order .hack//sign (ep 1-27) (first tv season) ep 27 can be watched anytime after ep 08 or so since it provides background story on one of the characters) .hack//liminality (OVA 4 eps) - takes place 2 years after the sign. Each episode came in a pckage with the videogame (series of 4) and provides helpful/background information to the game. OVA can be watched separately without playing the game, though might be somewhat confusing. .hack//udended or legend of twilight bracelet (second tv season)- takes 2 years after the game or 4 after the original tv series .hack//sign 28 and .hack//gift should be watched either after playing the game or watching the second tv season since some of the characters involved are from the game, though they do appear in the second tv season as well. TV seasons one and two can be watched without playing the game or watching the ova. Ep 27, 28 and gift never aired and were released on the last dvd of the first tv season, the last dvd supposed to be a two dvd pack. Ep 28 concludes the .hack universe (unless there will be extras on the second tv season dvds). .hack//gift is an omake episode which involves all of the major first season and video game characters. hope that could help. |

BUBBLEGUM CRISIS/CRASH
All in all BGC is a series whcih in the earlier days was filled with delays, echonomic problems etc The results are unfinished stories and all that stuff. It begins with: Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2033 8 episodes, kickass 80's music. Cyber Punkgood ol pre 90's cell animation. It all starts here. Problem is that it just ends, it was never really finished. and so came Bubblegum, Crash Three episodes. Takes place a year after Crisis 2033 and is more of a sidestory. After some years came the most known: Bubblegum Crisis 2040 This is an entire timeline of it's own. 26 episodes. It starts off with the same ideas as BGC Tokyo 2033 but actually takes things further and it has a planned ending. Soo in cunclusion, we've got two timelines here: 1. BGC Tokyo 2033 and BGC crash 2. BGC 2040
