Friends? What are those?
Anyway - the concept is interesting. And if we look aside from the minor fact that Sothis probably would have to implement some kind of "referral id" the voters could use - I like the incentiv to get more people to vote. Of course - the challenge is - and will always be - to get people to write some more or less well thought out recommendations. I know myself how hard that is. But to summarize: I support everything that can help the anime recommendation database to grow - but I am uncertain what is the best way of doing this. I would perhaps suggest that it was created moderators for genres or studios etc. that could check the quality of the recommendations - just like you have in the forum. And I believe also there might be an advantage with including some kind of additional information with the anime recommendations. Like for instance getting freakzilla or some other knowlegdeable user to write some indepth comments about particular anime studios, genres etc. - in other words - something that represents an added value to the user of the anime recommendation tool. Perhaps we could attract even more users to the recommendation tool. But then it would turn more and more into a kind of webzine I guess. But it is at least a thought. |

yea.. the reason why ive never included genre, studios, etc.. is because all of that info is easily found on anidb, and i dont really want to duplicate information...

The last contest, ie doing your own votes, was much easier to participate in than this one, yet it had a fairly poor turnout. Therefore, I think that this one would likely have an even worse turnout.
To illustrate my point, look how many votes Sothis has, yet look how hard she has to work to get the 100s of members in the AP community to collectively vote even a fraction as often as she does. It's like we'd all be miniture Sothis's--the people who'd participate are probably the ones who already have bunches of votes, and they'd just be doing whatever they can to get other people to contribute as well. So, it is a nice idea, definitely no harm in trying, but given how much harder it is to get others to vote than it is to vote yourself, I feel this contest will see less enthusiasm on the part of the existing AP community than the last--though, given the miracles Sothis has done with the site, perhaps truckloads of enthusiasm isn't as neccessary one would think. Likely, the contest will meet with some success, just not as much as we'd all like. --- On a side note, don't worry too much about cheating--I doubt many will go through all the trouble of making dozens of accounts, geting 'em all validated, and typing in the same 5-10 votes, all uniquely phrased and worded, a gazilion times. It's just too much hassle, imho. There's bound to be a couple who try it (perhaps on a smaller scale), but the votes are unique enough that they get past Sothis, there's not much you can really do about it in anyways--significantly increasing account validation requirements right when you're trying to get people to sign up, just to weed out a few potential cheaters who'll dissapear as soon as the contest is done anyways, just ain't worth it. -Shalist, avatar of CHEESE! |

hrm... a good point :/
i mean, its a good idea, but i dont know how many people would ACTUALLY participate. i'm just stuck between a rock and a hard place... i need to get people to vote, and i need people to realize the database exists, but i cant do it all on my own.. and people seem uninclined to do a lot on their own time :/ (advertising, or voting)
