Don't waste time making stupid paper cranes? Either do something effective and worthwhile, or do nothing.

How is it not effective and worthwhile? Letters, postcards, drawings, paper cranes: these are gestures of support that can have a real impact on disaster victims, especially when they're offered by children who can do little else, yet want to help. It seems that's what this is primarily for: children.

So, while the kids fold the cranes, fortunate adults like you and me can dish out the $$$. And when those kids grow up? They're the ones who will be donating. They'll remember how good it felt to to fold those stupid paper cranes.

OP is nineteen, and this website is not exactly teeming with primary-schoolers. What I said still stands.

I don't see anything wrong with raising awareness and encouraging people to donate. I'm sure there are multitudes of people who are yet to donate (I'm one of them) or haven't felt the empathetic desire to do. OP still hasn't said what's going to happen to her paper cranes though... & yes in those news stories it seems to be something for schoolchildren, and the actual paper cranes signify a 20cent donation.

What you said was ignorant. I think you should apologize to the OP for being an asshole.

Perhaps seeing one of these cranes with the Red Cross # will spur someone to donate a mere $10. I imagine they'll be scattered around various places: restaurants, libraries, etc. It sounds like a great idea, and I hope the OP continues to participate, despite mussolini's rude and inconsiderate comment.

I think you should mind your own business.

Of course, information campaigns can be much more easily carried out, without making people think that they are making a contribution when, in fact, they are not doing anything significant. It's a stupid idea, and I'd rather be inconsiderate towards those championing it than to promote the potential inconsiderate (in the sense of being lacking in consideration) behaviour towards those who are actually in need that would result from people thinking that they are making a difference when really they are just wasting time.

There are parents on this forum who would thank the op for the information they can pass on to their children. I'm not looking into it but if each crane is actually getting a donation per crane then this isn't a stupid thing at all, it's a method for children to pitch in however way they can.

Simply having an opinion that differs from yours does not make me a troll. Time and time again have you accused me of trolling, on what would seem to be nothing more than such grounds.
