Hey everyone, so Im gonna brag a bit, I am currently in Japan (Yokosuka) having blast, just got here a couple of days ago and I am here for the whole month of September. I am still fighting jet lag, but its starting to get easier. The current mode of transportation is a very small motorcycle that my boyfriend has. It is very scary to be on a little motorcycle with traffic like it is here.
I am excited to see the giant Gundam statue, shopping in Harajuku and Shinjuku, seeing Fuji and hopefully see some Sumo wrestling. Does anybody have any suggestions for any other really cool things to do in Japan, mostly around Tokyo and Yokohama, I am looking forward to going to the Tale of Genji museum in Kyoto. Is there anything that I shouldn't miss there or anywhere else? I really like it here, its my second time and everything just makes more sense here than in the United States. The people are so much more friendly and bubbly. I can't get over how cheerful people are here all the time, it makes it impossible for anyone to be grumpy or depressed here. I also like how most of the things here are cutesy and cuddly like their drink containers and signs for stuff. Thanks for any suggestions for things to not miss in Japan because it will be a long time if I come back....

The Jealousy meter on me is at dangerous highs. lol.
That sounds like a lot of fun. I only wish I knew what cool things were to do there. Para para jo I think is over there right now as well. You know i would probably be tempted to see an animated movie in the theaters like the new EVA 02 movie. Even if I did not speak a lick of Japanese. lol I hope it is not the Stepford country, with all the cheery people. ;) When you get back try to post a couple shots. Can I ask why you are there? |

Not too sure about Tokyo, though you might want to go and have a drink at the New York Bar and Grill at the top of Shinjuku Park Tower (especially if you liked Lost in Translation), I think if you go before 8 you can avoid the cover charge.
I had the best time in Kyoto at Fushimi Inari-taisha (though it was snowing and amazing weather for it, plus I got on the wrong mountain track at night, which made the memory better). I also loved the Heian-jingu gardens, well worth going to if you haven't. There's also the awesome little Shosei-en garden near the station. Also you can organize tours for Nijo-taisha, an old samurai inn near Nijo-jo with all sorts of hidden boobytraps (actually I think I still have the card for the free english-language guides if you want the number, but that was almost four years ago). |

Rock on, yeah I am even more enveous of your boyfriend. I want to have a job that is in Japan! =D
Is there still a lot of open space when you get out of the city? How good is the transit? are you always having to stand? I kinda thought they had good trains, busses and the like, but I always see pictures of jammed packed rail cars. I guess like you said, you almost have to get along. It is currently almost midnight here, I can only assume it is mid day there. Quote:
I want to try out the Samurai Inn. If you don't pay the bill I bet your dropped into a pit with wild animals. |

On the train from Narita airport there is a lot of open space, but its mostly farmland and grassy fields. The trains are not that bad most of the day. They are pretty bad on weekdays in the morning and in the evening, like rush hour type crowds. It is very annoying when you have a big suitcase and you are crammed in the train like sardines in a can. In the winter the trains have heated seats which is really nice because it gets really cold here in the winter, but in the summer the trains are pretty warm even though they are moderately air conditioned. It gets even warmer when there are like 20 people in a 3X4 foot space.
My boyfriend likes it here too, but he doesnt get to be here all that often. He is on an aircraft carrier that is out at sea for 4-5 months at a time. He just got back from a tour of Asia and Australia that lasted all summer and he goes out again in October for a few months. He still knows more about Tokyo than I do. Tomorrow we are going to Ueno to Bike street to look at motorcycle gear. And Akihabara for computer equipment and any other high tech gadgets that look fun. Yay! |

You're in Yokosuka? Ever played the old Dreamast game Shenmue? Why not try looking for some sailors or the mad angels?
Anyway, I'm in Sakaide and I live near the bridge which connects the Shikoku and Honshuu islands.
