Ok, I don't know if there's another thread on the subject but I'm making this one anyway.

About half a year ago, I found out an incredible secret. Gaijin (foreigners) gain super, amazing powers when they go to Japan. If you don't believe me, just read about it right here GaijinSmash.net | Gaijin Smash. So, as I, too, have always wanted to be a super hero, I decided that I must do whatever it takes to gain super powers-there's no other way I'll be able to oppose the forces of evil. That left me with no choice but to go to Japan. Unfortunately, I encountered a slight problem: how can an American with no marketable skills and little to no Japanese language ability get to Japan and stay there? Well, after much soul searching (on the internet), I found the answer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eikaiwa_school

Apparently, if you have a college degree, a pulse, don't mind being exploited by shady employers, and deceiving your students, they will hire you and take care of your Visa so you can live in Japan. This, my friends, is the American dream.

Anyway, on a serious note, life in the US isn't terribly interesting, so I decided I might as well go live in Japan for a couple years and then figure where to go from there (possibly Korea or Thailand). I did some research, and found out what the more respectable Eikaiwas are and applied. I'm now employed with ECC, and should be heading to Japan around June to teach English at one of their conversation schools. The pay isn't bad, and as long as you're not buying whores and cocaine every day, you should be able to live well enough. The workload for the better Eikaiwa's is not that burdensome, which gives one time to do other things.

So, if you want to visit Japan or live there, and you have a college degree, it's something to consider. I'm curious if anyone else on AP has worked in the Eikaiwa industry, or plans to?

Not yet, it could be a couple months till I know. It will most likely be one of the major metropolitan areas though.

I speak to the author Gaijan Smash fairly often. He has been a poster on shoryuken.com (fighting game forum) for almost a decade, as have I. Lots of people know him on there; definitely a cool guy.
