By purchasing the Genki 1 book and going through it *decently*, will I have learned enough Japanese to watch unsubbed anime? Or are there more advanced books that deal more with the culture as well?

how they talk in anime and how they talk in real life is quite different. Genki I is one of the better books about japanese language learning. But again it can only teach you so much. A lot of things in there need explaning by teachers/professionals. Japanese language/culture are different so it's not just learning how to say it, but to understand what is being said and why it's being said is very important. As for culture get some books on Japanese culture. Here is oneo f the smaller book that I found to be really informative and helpful. It's called Understanding Japanese Society by Joy Hendry. Sorry if that is confusing, but my mind is confused right now lol |

Since NeX is no longer around this thread has been unstickeyed and split as to avoid future confusion on the matter.
Thread closed. Will be reopened if NeX ever decides to come back.
