Meetings would be on sunday, sometime preferably in the late afternoon or evening eastern time. I can be flexible with the timing.
I can start the class with 4 people. There is a strike going at my school so I got spare time now. Thanks for the complement guys, sometimes I get lost and confused, but hopefully it'll happen less now. btw I was thinking of throwing in random tad bits of japanese culture information. Just general stuff that might be interesting or useful if you go to Japan. It would be at the end of the lecture and be something like: Taking the Tokyo subway. The subway is called "chikatetsu". If any of you have ever used it you know the horrors of the place. Before you go down in there, buy yourself a guide! It's a thick book which has monthly listings for train information. The map can be very confusing and intimidating. If you aren't sure go upto the "ekiin-san" (station attendant). He will be in a booth marked by english and japanese. They speak english and are there to help you out. Depending on the time of day and the location you might have a huge crowd wanting to use the trains. Over here we would just wait for the next train, but in Tokyo they will squeeze you in. They have guys dressed in blue uniforms (more ekiin-san') who will be pushing you and everyone to get inside for the doors to close. So don't be offended if you feel someone behind you pushing you in. Also, wear some good deodorant when you're in there, be considerate of the people around you. No one will make eye contact or say anything to you, but they'll know it's you. Lastly, if you know Japanese you'll hear an announcement every few minutes on the P.A. system. They make an announcement for everything: please stay behind the line, we're approaching x station, be careful when exiting etc.... There a lot of messages. I suggest you go with someone who knows the system the 1st time. The place is huge and they run so many train lines there. example: http://www.tokyometro.jp/global/en/s...outemap_en.pdf I hear there is one more complicated in korea. Don't be afraid to ask for help from an ekiin-san. Don't feel bad if you get lost, I did T_T Some of these bits are from personal experiences, but mostly from a japanese culture course I've taken. |

I've been thinking about a second class overnight. I'm not 100% if I can do it because of time. Schedule is kinda messed and I barely watch anime now. Earlier I was having a hard time keeping up with the original class.
Next semester is going to be even worst. I don't want to start a class and then cancel it half way it wouldn't be fair to you guys. If I do decide to start it will happen probably in early december. I'm catching up on some work right now (japanese mainly T_T). For those who want to start, drop me a pm with some info: 1. who you are on ap 2. location and age 3. level of japanese: if you've taken any jp courses or self taught yourself. 4. lastly, why you want learn japanese outside of anime. do you want to live in japan? if yes, for how long? planning a future vacation? planning on studying there? planning on working there through jet or w/e? plan on using it for future career purposes? because you love languages? other, please state what it is. 5. Time you prefer on sundays (tell me the time in Eastern time), use google to convert. I need that info so I can decide how to model the course, in relation to which area to focus on more and what level of difficulty etc... |

XD I'm in my third year of Japanese. I could consider helping out, but as it is right now I'm booked with shool. DX Besides you probably know more than me. If you would like me to help out I could, I just couldn't do it everyweek.

Due to me being busy on an insane level the course has been dropped. Sorry to those people who were participating and to those who wanted to participate.
Maybe something over summer time can be done if I get the time/opportunity. |

Hi im EXTREMELY INTERESTED in this program. However, i dont need lessons i just need to ask you now and than what certain words are. I have been wanting to learn japanese for a while now. I have always looked for an outside source like you nex. I currently am using a pirated version of rosetta stone to learn japanese (real version is about 600 bucks for all 3 types of courses OUCH!) However, some words that i stumble upon are very confusing and hard to understand. and thats where you come in. Ill email you in 5 minutes but if you dont get it please reply here thanks.
p.s. I love the culture stuff you say that stuff is awesome to know Last edited by Edgeworth; 01-14-2009 at 09:13 PM. |
