Hey

Hey my name is Dan I grew up watching dragonball and fell in love with anime ever since I've watched a good amount of anime since but I wouldn't call me an expert on the topic. Also if anyone who read a lot of manga can answer this. What makes manga so appealing I understand the animes are based on the manga but I don't see any real pros reading instead of watching.. Well i hope to make a good stay here, I enjoy this site since it can track my life on anime which I thought was pretty neat too bad it doesn't count re watched animes.

Hello and Welcome to Anime Planet, Hope you enjoy it here.

To answer you're question, some people prefer manga to anime because the anime adaptations do not always follow the manga and leave out so many details and often even go down a completely different path then the manga did. Even to the point of having different endings, characters that were left out and even the characters actions and attitude are changed. Also some people just prefer reading to watching.

TL;DR Manga has a more detail and sometimes the anime is significantly different then the manga.

I used to think that watching was better, too. But once you get used to reading manga, there's something kind of exciting about it. You get a tactile object in your hands, something to flip through. You can linger on certain pages and skim through others, and go at your OWN pace. And this may sound stupid, but there's something appealing about a rpw of manga decorating your bookshelf. If you've never really tried a manga, I recommend it! Especially a real one (as opposed to reading online... meh)

Re: Hey

I never used to read manga - only watched anime, but I love Soul Eater so much and just wanted more, so I started reading the manga, and I've really, really been enjoying it.

I liken it somewhat to the difference between reading a novel and watching the movie based on it. All the differences Blank mentioned are the same in both cases. The only difference between these two (and sorry, I know this wasn't asked, but anyway) is that with manga you're given images of people, places, etc, whereas with books it's all left up to your imagination.

Oh yes, welcome, of course! I seem to forget that part all too often...

See you around the forums! ^_^

Re: Hey

Hello & welcome...

First manga I read was, you guessed it... Elfen Lied. XD
In fact, it's the only manga I've completed so far. I enjoyed reading it very much.

(I can neither confirm, nor deny that I was in a river of tears at the end)
