Anyway, I am a conceited ass about 50% of the time , just a heads up (why would I come right out and say that?)

I am currently attending college but don't plan on continuing. I'm dropping out after this semester to start a fishing lure company. Which is, again, kinda odd. You'll find that I'm not like anybody else out there, and I don't mean that in the Mr.Rogers "You're all special" kinda way either. I also don't really mean it in a strictly positive way either since I'm a bit... Well I can't think of a word to describe it but I think this will pretty much explain it: My ultimate dream is to have a Cat ranch, with like 100 acres of very well fenced in (so things don't get in and hurt that kitties <_>) and a crap load of cats. And I'm serious, if I ever get the resources to do it that will be what I do...

I got sidetracked.... Oh right, another thing is that when I talk in chat, on forums or on imageboards I don't type things out all nice like I'm writing a damn essay. Nah, I type them exactly the way I would say them.

Okay... um Oh yeah I'm often referred to by people in real life as "Trololol" because of my tendency to allow my sadistic behaviors which have grown even stronger since I spend more time on the internet than I did growing up. I'm a great guy, don't get me wrong on that, but I am a truly sadistic bastard towards people I don't like. So yeah, probably going an extra level down when I get to hell for it..


I'm going to stop rambling since nobody actually gives that much of a shit to begin with.

TL;DR Hi, I'm Doomoo I am 20, male, in college, Starting my own company after this semester, a sadistic and conceited bastard but deep down I'm a really good guy. My hobbies and interests are Fishing, Anime, Manga, Art, Cats, Turtles, Behavioral Ecology, Interpersonal Psychology and Talking with people across all corners of the web.

And yes, I know that was a long TL;DR but shut up.

I'm not sure if it's okay for me to use foul language and I know I saw something about rules at some point but I just looked and couldn't find it so I'm going to go ahead and post this. If I'm not suppose to then just delete this, I saved it just in case so i can revise it.

This will probably come off as me being rude. Maybe I am being rude. But I'm curious as to why men on sites such as this almost all have avatars of girls, mostly little girls. To each his own of course, But that doesn't mean it isn't creepy/bothering.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking to find a date or anything like that it's just I find it easier to talk to women than I do men... Unless they are stereotypes of the average shallow woman that today's society has create so many of. Those annoy me... But since this is an anime site I'd say anybody here is at least somewhat outside society's norms. Or at least America's norms.

Well it's mostly because of our lolicon ways, we love loli's.... ok, not really, not for everyone anyway. I have a female pic because I can't stand most of the male characters in any anime... even the nice ones. I think I can only think of a handful of male characters that I actually like and I still find a lot of the female characters better. I would also have to say that the fatherly instincts of which you made a thread about would also cut it, I have had Ushio as my avatar before mostly because she so damn cute, not just her looks but her attitude to.

As for the girls, there's a few here, Nitroglycerin, Tentoumushi, Ailly, Sothis just to name 4 out of the top of my head... I might get bashed on by other girls that see this post now. I don't think there is anyone here who falls under the "norms" of... well anything.

Also, you're post has absolutely nothing that could be considered rude/assholish/dickish/etc. and I'm sensitive as shit, if someone starts insulting me I actually do get sad... sometimes... depending on the person... anyway, you aren't being rude, it's what I'm trying to get at.

So I noticed that despite the seemingly large number of posts and content on this site many of the anime have incomplete data and the number of people on the forums seems oddly low from what I've seen. What's up with that? This place should be overflowing with otaku and closet nerds! D:

If I were to take a guess, the low number of people on the forums would have to be that they either don't know about it or they just use the main website. There have been a high amount of people that always make a forum account and say they have been part of the main site for months, even years sometimes, they just recently got into the forums. Unfortunately, many people do not stay for long, I would not know why as this forums community is actually pretty fun.

As for the missing data, there was a thread about 2 weeks ago about someone quitting and the main reason was anime synopsis that were missing. The site owner went ahead and posted a long post as to why, it will be in this spoiler since it really is long.

going past that, the reason that i personally get frustrated reading posts like this, which i think is what the regulars were trying to convey, is that the action wasnt to try to fix the site, it was to leave it after things didn't magically change on their own. as site owner, i am constantly doing something on anime-planet - a lot of which no one sees. for example right now i'm working on finalizing some manga moderator training documents so chapters get updated faster. i'm working on the redesign of some of the core site pages to be easier to use. i'm working out the details of what could go into a mobile app. i'm helping with character moderation. etc.

the point being, if someone thinks something is broken on the site, the only way it'll get fixed is if it's brought up. the poster could have posted a thread, a long time ago, expressing concern at the missing series (or asking about the freezing synop, for example) and asked if there's anything that can be done. i get that there's a problem with missing synops, it's not new information... BUT, being reminded of it in a kind/neutral way means that maybe that priority could get bubbled up to the top of the list.

for everyone's information, here's why less synops are being filled in in a quick fashion:

-it's true that all synops that go up are hand written. so are all char descriptions, manga synops, etc. this is a tenet that we've had since day 1, 10 years ago - everything on AP needs to be unique, because otherwise we'd be the same as all the other sites. Without exception, every other anime database puts up some good, but many terrible synops, spoilers, copy/pasted from elsewhere, etc. my goal with Anime-Planet is that when you come here, you can trust the information, you know thought has gone into it, and it's high quality. yes, this leads to a bottleneck when there isnt a good writer to write the synop, its a tradeoff.

-up until a few years ago we flat out would not put up entries without info, for this reason. i wanted every entry on AP to have high quality info. then we added personal list functionality so this stance wasnt as reasonable. so, i started adding blank entries so people could at least mark them.

-writing synops is somewhat of an artform and requires a certain level of skill - in the past, the site reviewers would write a ton of these themselves. i personally did a LOT of them myself, too, to fill the gaps.

-right now we pretty much dont have a reviewing team - they are all MIA or dont have time anymore. no synopses are being submitted by these writers

-Anime-Planet has gotten so big, and our development resources have changed in a bad way, so ive had to pick up a huge amount of this slack myself. rest assured at every waking minute i'm home, with few exceptions, i'm doing something on AP

-The character database happened. There's tens of thousands of chars to add, and the database ended up becoming really popular. Some of the descrip writers do a lot of work over on the char db end, which takes away from anime synops

We do have a team of folks who send in screenshots, unfortunately in the last month I've started taking nightly college courses which makes it hard for me to even be able to add those. There is no way that mods can add the screens - synops are another matter, but none of the reviewing team has availability to either write them, or train others to know what sort of synops we need (community validation doesnt help with these - when the manga db first started we would take community submissions, edit them based on feedback, and put them up. the vast majority of the time we found out later (after one fo the writing team read them themselves) that the synops were often flat out wrong, spoilery, or focused on the wrong plot points. thats why we stopped accepting manga submissions, and why accepting rnadom anime submissions for synops probably cant happen either.

i DO want to have a way to train new writers, but again, that requires someone to do the training.

i realize it's a problem - the only solution right now would be for me personally to start watching a ton of older titles, unless you guys can convince the site reviewers to start writing more of them ;) i'd love the time to do this, but dont have it. it's why right now, i'm trying to get at least some of the moderation elements offloaded to other mods (example: manga modding)

as a note, recommendations are not 'community moderated' - they go through a moderation system, and i personally push the button on every one of them. they are visible by default, so the lag on 'moderating' just means a bad one might be up for a bit before being taken down.

the above is long but important reading. we need a solution, i dont have a perfect one right now, but the one thing i will push back on is that i dont want to lower the quality of info on the site. otherwise we'd be the same as everyone else. bottom line is we need more trained writers that can help with synops.
