...and I'd like some recommendations
what I read so far (and enjoyed) Mirai Nikki Koe de Oshigoto Haruhi Lucky Star Azumanga Daioh K-ON! Hayate no Gotoku what I hate: generic shonen like Naruto, Bleach, or One Piece pretty much anything with a "pre 2000" art style. I'll branch out later after I read a substantial number of manga series. other info: It's a rather hard request, but I'd like to read manga that I haven't watched an anime adaptation of (or that the anime adaptation was extremely different from). Of course, this is probably more or less impossible so I'd like recommendations taking into account the anime that "everyone" has watched so far (IE FMA, death note, etc) I enjoy darker stories like Mirai Nikki (romance is always nice as well) and slice of life. I'd also like a story where the protagonist isn't a spineless whelp like every other crappy shonen series. based on my anime viewing/manga reading habits, I'll be burning through these volumes pretty quickly so the more recommendations the better. (goal = 4000 chapters in 8 months)

the manga rec database is proving to be woefully inadequate so far (perhaps explaining the decision to allow rec threads). 0 recs for hayate & koe de oshigoto. several unsuitable recs for mirai nikki, haruhi, lucky star, azumanga daioh etc. I'm not new to forums and as such I've gone through the forum search feature, google, the rec database, myanimelist, and wikipedia for answers before posting a thread |

the key being if people have recs, they should be adding them in the manga entries themselves and not forum threads (the old recs thing i believe was when the db was first created, but at this point people should really be giving them in the tool itself so others can read them). it's true that tehre arent a ton of manga recs yet, which is why it's even more important for people to make them in the database.
note: not sure what the unsuitable recs means, none are passed through unless they have a good reason written.

You should read Deadman Wonderland. Mirai Nikki's the most recommended manga I've seen for Deadman Wonderland (though I've yet to read it myself)...it's also getting an anime adaptation in spring... So read it! Read it and then we can both rage if the anime doesn't live up to the manga! It'll be great...I promise...
Based on the other things you've read I don't think I can recommend anything else...but if you really liked a manga you should check out some other works by the mangaka... For example The author of Azumanga Daioh...You could read Yotsuba by him or...oh look he also did some hentai ...or that...I hear Yotsuba's great though so you should probably read it... Edit: If you want slice of life manga...you should check out some of Asano Inio's works...he writes great slice of life stories! :3 |

just saying, why not link people to AP's entries given we're on AP?
Inio ASANO | Anime-Planet example also, since youve read almost 300 manga, why not make some recommendations in the database? you've made zero recommendations so far :( since you've read a lot, it should be easy (and this is why people don't take our manga rec db seriously - the people who read the manga need to actually make some recs) ive also removed the out of date line about rec threads.

![]() Gah...a direct attack on me... I...I'm just not very good at expressing myself :( ...nor do I have the confidence to write a rec/synopsis/description etc... sad I know... In a few days I'm leaving to spend xmass and new years eve with my family but when I get back in january I promise I'll try to rack my brains and come up with some recs for the manga I've read...Not close to 300 yet though...more like 143 :P You're right about linking to Asano's page on AP though...I just instinctivly linked to MU since I mostly use MU as they show the last release for a series/the groups that scanlated the series etc etc... |

Provided that the reasons aren't completely ludicrous or too personal (ie a rec of "read this just because I love it" won't pass), your recs will likely be accepted, and you could help some people find a manga that they really like. Part of why I love the rec feature is not always because of rec reasons, but it draws your attention to a manga you may not have known about and you could read the synopsis and love it. Don't be too daunted by making recs, they honestly aren't that scary, and hey, it may even help the confidence side of things. Plus manga recs equal TACO points. ![]() I agree that there need to be more recs, and the manga db definitely needs some more love. XD *hugs manga db*

The rec feature is awesome indeed...even now I remember sothis' rec for Ryofuko chan from Kodomo no Jikan saying it was "flat out wrong to watch" ...so naturally I had to watch it...I was never the same after that...
You make it sound pretty easy...thought now when I think back on it I shouldn't have given in so easily >_> I'd much rather help with updating chapters/adding new series :( ...that sounds way easier to me considering the amount of time I spend on MU and AP... But since I already promised...I guess it can't be helped... Edit: Oh also thanks for the tips!...I'll keep those in mind when I get around to writing recs... |

unsuitable is used purely in context of this thread however I plan on adding recs after I get around 100ish series read :). Unfortunately every time I sit down to write a rec it turns into a huge rant or something >.> perhaps i should practice more |
