I guess I watch the anime first... because the manga is often more detailed then the anime and mostly the reader will learn something new about the story that the anime didnt reveal. The other way around I often feel that the anime doesnt have much to add anymore, however I do like to see some good stories come to life.

I normally read the manga first then bad-mouth the anime by pointing out how inaccurate the anime is to the manga then repeatendly insulting to anime and prasing the manga. thats what i normally do and some animes deserve it!

Strictly anime first. The only mangas I've read much of are Berserk and Gantz, because their endings left me wanting more. I'm not really into manga enough to read it independently. I've never been a big fan of comics and graphic novels, generally, preferring to read a book or watch a film/animated show. I think the way comics combine visuals and text dilutes their power in many cases, decreasing the emotional impact they'd have if they were purely written or filmed/animated.
I think this is part of the reason I'm hesitant to start visual novels like Planetarian, as I believe that an anime version would move me much more. I don't want to undermine that by playing the visual novel beforehand. Similarly I wouldn't want to find out the plot of a story by the reading the manga, when an anime has much more potential. |
