Default Pro Sports Thread

If you're here to join the picks game or our fantasy football league, simply go to the last page on the thread. It's pretty self-explanatory but if you have questions feel free to ask.

First picks in before Thursday 9/05. The day the Cowboys and Giants collide.

-----------
Ive been meaning to get around to it but I wasn't sure how many people here are big sports fans, but I decided to start this thread anyway, haha. So if you talk sports, you might as well do it here.

Being from the U.S. I follow basically every major American sport, here's a list of sports I follow:

Boxing (Mayweather vs. Marquez this weekend)
NFL (Excited for week 1, playing some Fantasy)
NBA
MLB
College Football
UFC (UFC 103 this weekend)
World Cup qualifiers (Can't wait til 2010)
English Premiere League (So-so, catch the games when I can)
Tennis (yup, I like tennis)

I watch football sometimes, but the subtleties of it are over my head.

I love the NBA. I hate that Iverson went to a crappy team that gets no national coverage, but whatever. I still have the Celtics and Derek Rose to follow.

I'll watch boxing and MMA sometimes, if it's free. I much prefer K-1 kickboxing though.

The trade for him and Billups has to be one of the most One-sided NBA trades ever. I don't know if Iverson quit on Detroit, or if Detroit quit on Iverson, but at least now he can get back to playing some bball in Memphis.

Derek Rose did some pretty incredible stuff in that series against the Celtics, one of the best I've seen.

I was cheering for the Bulls though and I pretty much hate the city of Boston as far as sports is concerned.
(Laker's fan here, haha)

Monday Night ends in disappointment tonight, but with "moral" victories.

Tom Brady came back and didn't really have a "Tom Brady-esqe" game tonight against the Bills, but he showed some good signs at the end that he can still be big in big moments. The Bills played a great game, Trent Edwards was solid and the D for the Bills proved the could match up against the Pats, but when it mattered most they made a crucial mistake with a fumble on the kick return, and you don't give Tom Brady another chance, or he'll make you pay. Still, Bills showed some good signs and they're 08 season now seems like less of a fluke or the result of other teams having problems. Pats weren't great but they proved they can make the plays when it matters most. Pats win 25-24(Dammit)

Raider Nation was alive tonight with the game against the Chargers. Raiders looked more like the Raiders of old with the great D and the smash-mouth style football. They ran the ball well which freed up Russel for some good passing plays, though he was inaccurate at times. McFadden played the best game I've seen from him since college and it seems all the bullshit surrounding the Raiders might serve as a motivator for good play. Crucial moment came at 4th and 15 when the Raiders decided to go for it and had me saying WTF! It seemed more like something you'd try in Madden, not the NFL. But they quickly shut me up when it the play ended in a bomb from Russel for a touchdown; lucky for them the Chargers blew some coverages on the play.

The Chargers for most of the game seemed down, they couldn't run the ball, and they couldn't unleash Rivers for the Deep ball. But unlike the first 3 quarters the Raiders couldn't protect against the short drop-off passes and make a stop when it counted most. Right after the long bomb from Russel the River's led a game winning drive against the Raider's D which was giving up about Ten yards of space every play protecting the deep ball, and the Charger's were happy to take em.
Chargers win 24-20 (Dammit)

Heart Breaking losses for both the Bills and the Raiders but the both showed good signs and will probably bounce back.

To note is that I hate the Pats, I'm a Colts and Raiders fan (It's complicated) and that I don't want this thread to turn into my personal blog, so I probably won't have many big posts like this one, since I want to incite discussion and not bore people, haha.

U.S. Open ended with some craziness, although not completely unexpected. When I saw the way Del Potro has been playing lately, I didn't think anybody could beat him unless they forced him to move a lot. He pulled out the win against Federer in 5 sets after fighting off match points. Federer got angry and he definitely let it get to him, but still, all credit to Del Potro, after he skooled Rafa Nadal(My favorite player) in straight sets I knew he had a dam good chance.

If this dude gets in better shape I see no reason why he can't reach the Australian open finals as well. Especially with that monster hitting.

Bummed about the bills loss, they fucked up, but as a proud San Diegan I'm stoked for the Chargers win.

I also happen to hate the pats. Deep seething hatred.

Why do you all hate boston? :(

Haha I have a deep hatred for the Lakers. What's with them and their ridiculous windfalls? it was Pau Gasol 2 years ago, and now Ron Artest for nothing but Ariza? that's just wrong. WRONG. At least Boston had to cripple its bench to get Allena and Garnett. There hasn't been a real backup 1 for a full season since that trade, and once again, no backup pg this season.

Got no problem with boston, I just hate the Pats :p

There's three things I want every week.

A Chargers win
A Pats loss
A Raiders loss

Ah, So we have something in common. I too despise the Pats, except I look for four things every week.

A Colts win. Go Colts!
A Cowboys win.
A Pats loss.
A Chargers loss.
