Hm. I don't really understand why the celtics signed Rondo again. He would have been a restricted free agent in the summer where all kinds of stars would be free agents. Relatively speaking, he'd probably be low on the list 1, because he's not exactly an all-star just yet, and 2, because if anyone wanted to throw him an offer, they'd have to commit that money until the celtics decided if they would match or not, and if they do match, that week or whatever would go down the drain no?

It's a pretty big deal, 50 some million for 5 years. I think they could have signed him a little cheaper had they waited.

So after watch Game 5 of the World Series last night, I've come to the conclusion that Chase Utley is the best person in baseball to build a team around. Throughout the WS he's hitting .333, 5 of his 6 hits were homeruns, and his defense is damn near perfect. Now all the Phillies need to do is trade Howard for Pujols and they'd have the most dominant 1-5 lineup in baseball, because let's face, Howard can't hit shit when he's under pressure. Here's to hoping the Phils pull it off and win the series again. Now I just need my BoSox to pick up some good players in the off season, because the team is piling up old guys in the lineup.

Ahhhhhh! So much blasphemy in one post , haha. You're right though, Chase Utley is a complete monster. Getting hits and HRs off everybody the Yankees try to shut him down with. Which is why I was talking to some people yesterday, and we couldn't come up with a sensible reason to pitch to Utley at this point. I know Cliff Lee got the player of the game thing, but without Utleys 3-run bomb, aint no way the Phillies win that game, especially after the Yanks punished Lee for 5 and seemed to rally with Damon again. Then Teixeira screwed it up.

Just walk Utley, Howard has been terrible(understatement) in the WS, and even if he decides to break his slump randomly, it's still worth the risk when Utley is going to punish you for sure. That kinda shit just makes me mad sometimes. Also Teixeira has been about as awful as A-rod used to be. If he didn't get hit by that pitch game 4 after Damon's at bat, I'm 90% sure he strikes out/grounds out. So the Yanks caught a break.

I would not trade Howard though. He was the MVP of the NLCS. He's just going through his A-rod phase. I mean, just a week ago he was talking about "Just get me to the plate in the 9th guys, and we can win the game." It's just a very poorly timed (If your going for Philly) slump, and I'm sure he'll be blazing hot again Next season, regardless of what happens in the WS. He's going to break the all time strike-out record though, which is funny and sad to me, because Howard is such a good player.

Anyway, the blasphemy thing is because I'm hoping the Yankees win, (I don't want the Phillies to repeat) and well...I have a very, very, very strong dislike for all athletic teams from the city of Boston.

I think Rondo is the future though. Garnet/Pierce/Allen probably only have 1-2 maybe 3 years of top notch performance left in them.

I am wondering if they are going to take the same approach as Spurs with keeping a top notch point and look toward the future. I think Rondo is pretty amazing from here. During that fantastic series against the Bulls I felt he was the catalyst for the win.
I hear what your saying about the fact it does seem like they did not need to waste the money just yet.
Anyhow.
Celts are still undefeated right?

I agree. The only reason this makes any sense is that the Celtics are expecting Rondo to play extremely well again in the playoffs (He was averaging a Triple-double last season) and they're probably honestly expecting to win another championship. And Rondo would be a huge reason why, even with guys like KG, Pierce and Allen, Perkins, Davis and now Sheed.

So at this point, Point gaurd wise, it's basically Chris Paul and Rajon Rondo. They're the top picks. So any team looking for a PG to complete their team might be willing to pay the money, and the Celtics would definitely lose out.

So it could end up being a good move, if they were looking that far ahead.

Anyway, this surprised me a lot, especially because the Celtics in the off-season were acting like they didn't care about Rondo by using him as trade bait. So I'm glad they got enough sense to realize the Celtics cannot be a complete team without Rondo.

And I agree with you Funk, the Celtics are an aging team, much like the Spurs, so they might want to keep Rondo around for a few years to have a chance after the KG, Pierce, Allen, era. Or as many shots as they can get while those guys are still around.

I'm excited today for what I hope will be the last game of this World Series. Lots of talk about the Yankees putting guys on the mound on 3 days rest. Hopefully Pettitte gets it done. I believe he can do it as long as he doesn't pitch to Chase Utley. Anyway, Tonights match-up: Andy Pettitte vs Pedro Martinez

Yankees win the world series baby!!! WHOOOOOO!!!!!! And how bout Godzilla(Matsui)? He was on fire tonight. He deserves the MVP. They made Mariano work for the save, but he still got it. Not a close game, but still very fun to watch. Yankees got 27 championships now, thats freaking crazy.

In short, WHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Baseball desperately needs a salary cap. It's a crying shame when you really think about it.

Are you saying that NY BOUGHT a title with superior money power?

lol
Well, I can not say I am a huge fan of Philly(and hell they won last year) or New York, BUT the new skipper I always liked even as a player, and Jeter is a good guy who deserves the hall down the road... but god almighty, is it hard to watch A-Roid get a ring. =P

meanwhile I watched Dallas loose to New Orleans in overtime NBA.

That's a long debate there. A lot of people actually would say the Yankees bought this championship (like they usually do). So yea, it's a bit unfair that the Yankees can throw this much money at players, and they don't really foster talent, they just pay for it. Either way, it's been 9 years since they won a championship, so all that money they've been throwing around the past 9 years proves you can get all the talent in the world, but unless they can work well as a team, you're not going to win. So that was the difference to me with the Yankees of this year, despite being bought like always they meshed together like a real team. And I think that's a much bigger reason why they won than their bought pieces. Especially when you consider the fact that C.C. lost both his starts, Teixeira was ice cold and Burnett almost lost. But those guys are definitely the reason the Yankees even had the chance to get to the WS.

I don't know man, haha, like I said, long debate.
