God, I used to use geocities years ago. It feels so weird to think it's closing. It's like hearing that the old sweet shop you used to frequent as a child, but havent been back to in years has closed.

Good old times though of having stuff hosted on all kinds of free hosters, hoping you dont forget all the different passwords to the ftp sites

Angelfire is still up, as is tripod. In fact, both are run by lycos now & if you sign up for any lycos service, you can get both an angelfire & a tripod acct. Each of which gives you 20megs of space, compared to geocities' 15megs.

My attachments to geocities is mostly nostalgic, it was the first webspace I ever set up, back when the web itself was brand new to me, and it still has all my nostalgic old images & pages. They're all total crap compared to what i can easily find or make now, but still....
Geocities does still have one useful function though, an html testbed. With it's file manager, you can test your code live (without having to switch back & forth between notepad & your browser), and when you get something you like you can save it quickly & easily (no need to save it & then upload it seperately. As soon as you save it, it's online. Period.)

Yep, freewebs is the ticket.

Like everyone else said, its weird to see Geocities go. But even though it was horrible, I thought it was gonna be around.

I guess that's life, right?

Bumpning, to point out to everyone that geocities closes tomorrow the 26th, and that today is your last chance to recover anything from any geocities site.

I used to have a yuyu hakusho site on geocities, and I kinda liked how their editor is just drag and drop. But the size limit was choking. 15mb? that's just 50 of my pictures. So I had to move to tripod.

Right now my free host is 110mb.com, no ads on your site, and it provides 110mb [still limited, but it's free, so no complaints there]

All I can say is, I won't miss GC... <_<;;

Can't say I ever had any enthusiasm for GeoCities, I've been using FreeWbs since forever and all the fansites I saw on geocities haven't been updated since 2004-ish

I was wondering why this thread got necro'd. Kinda surprised it hung on this long.

Strangely, this is now the 27th, and geocities is still up & running.

I'm not too bothered by geocities closing, but it does annoy me due to the fact that it was my first webpage ever & until now it's remained intact all this time.
