The federal indictment accuses Megaupload—which shocked the internet with the revelation that rap producer Swizz Beatz is for some reason its CEO—of over $500 million in lost media revenue from hosting pirated media. Luckily for us, there are plenty of alternatives to Megaupload. And luckily for Swizz Beatz, he's still a super-successful rap producer, an NYU professor, and Alicia Keys' husband. [AP]

Update: The WSJ says seven Megaupload employees are under arrest, with four already locked down—four of them in New Zealand! No word if one of them is Swizzy himself.

Update 2: As of 13 hours ago on Twitter, Mr. Beatz did not seem to give a shit about anything.

I am gutted. 10,000 anime, movie, tv files uploaded on my MU account. Only good thing is that my Premium ran out a week ago and I didn't get round to renewing it yet. This has happened before with other filesharing sites and they have come back, but never the same.

edit: ok i have unfortunately realised it was 10,000gb as opposed to single files... ouch.

2012 is my year for moving on!

First hotfile now megaupload, who is next?
I'm sure megaupload will be back eventually but I want to know under what conditions it is going to come back.
Btw, for those of u who don't know, stay away from hotfile. They now keep track of all IP adresses and then they hand them over to the US government (at least that's the simple short read version).

They just proved they don't need SOPA.
