I asked my dad about how to handle those situations when it ever hit me, because I always felt like I'll be asking for too little or too much. He said the best way is to look up the average minimum pay for the job your applying for and say anywhere between a dollar low and a dollar high, but to be in the safest range is always the minimum. Thankfully I haven't came across the situation yet.

Safe Range (Salary) - A wage were upon first spoke, both parties will agree without any doubts and questions as to why. A way to ask for a specific wage without hitting for a unusually high number or low number. Best used to prevent any possible embarrassment for the applicant.
