^ I think Hokuto no Ken is the most parodied anime show ever. Totally normal because it's always funny to parody such an exaggeratedly garish show.

Just spotted these!

For the note, Hidamari Sketch is a rather, err, I guess 'artsy' seems to be the best way to describe it visually. Randomly changing colors, styles, angles, etc. You really have to see it to understand. But the doll was just literally a plain blue, featureless doll. They cut away, then cut back to the shot and hey! It's different!

Yoko!

And Nia! My fav

Not sure who that is, but it looks to be some kind of reference.

I didn't know Hidamari Sketch had it in it. It doesn't seem like the sort of series that would reference others. It might actually mean that my 'Sayonara Zetsubou Sensi' spotting might actually be a reference to the series as opposed to a very similar character.

In France we don't need a parody, the "official" version which aired on TV was enough. It was a joke itself without any respect for the original work.

In French it's called "Ken the survivor" (Kenshiro -> Ken -> Hokuto no Ken...). Back when it aired in France, there was lots of controversy regarding the show. In Japan the violence in it didn't shock but in France many people were offended by Fist of the North star and how it targeted kids (aired with shows like Sailor Moon). Everyone working on the French dubs decided they would accept to dub the anime IF they could change any phrase as they wish... The voice actors added lots of... jokes (if you can call that jokes) into the anime.
They stated they considered the violence was "nazi" (they used this "adjective").

I'll try translating a few examples from French to English:

Quote:
"Sa botte secrète est redoutable, elle est si rapide et si tranchante que lorsque le sang jaillit... oh c'est déjà un bloc de glace à la vanille"
= "His secret attack is dreadful, it's as quick as lighting and razor-sharp, so much that when the blood spurts out... it's already a vanilla ice-cream bloc"

"Par le hokuto à viande je couperai vos gigots"
= "In the name of the "high steack knife" I'll cut your legs of lamb (haut couteau à viande > "hokuto" in Japanese sounds like "haut couteau" in French meaning "high knife", they've made a lot of jokes with the "hokuto" thing).

"Je suis le roi du manteau de fourrure !"
= "I'm the king of the fur coat!"

"Couteau de cuisine, couteau de salle à manger !!" (after Kenshiro killed a bad guy)
= "Kitchen knife, dining room knife!!"

"Décidément, les temps comme les œufs sont durs."
= "Really, times, like eggs, are hard."

"If you try to move, you'll simply explode! Boom! Boom, boom boom !"
Nowadays, I still hear people saying "Japanese cartoons are nothing but violence!!" Fist of the North star (and DBZ and Saint Seiya) did play a role in this narrow-minded opinion people have of anime today.
