First off, whiny is not realistic. To begin with, for one to be a pussy, one needs a cause, a reason, a plausible development, which Shinji does and the little guy whose name I do not want to remember fro Mirai Nikki does not. Just because his parents got a divorce does not mean he has justification for being a total pussy. On the other hand, Shinji is constantly pressured, blackmailed, manipulated and emotionally tortured by everyone around him, including his own father. Few characters would cope with that properly and none of them are realistic. People like Alucard end up sane after that, and that is not exaictly a realistic character.
Secondly, the Mirai Nikki bitch pussy (excuse my French) could have solved his problems my a simply phoning social care activists (hygene department) or the "normal" police. Nothing stops him. On the other hand, Shinji is locked in the cycle of his problems by a governmnet agency, which also happens to have several hundred agents at their disposal and several billion dollars.
Thirdly, Mirai Nikki is an attempt at a cash cow series. it tries to be unconvential without actually doing anything differently, particularly since it was made in 2011, when people would expect all of its developments. EVA, however, did in 1990s something other shows figured out they should do in mid 2000s, but never actually did it.
Fourthly, I respect your opinion, but whereas mine is based on reasonable arguments, your is based on your own personal whims.

i always if not liked sinji ..i understood him ...i think people have an unrealistic feeling about what it would be like to be throw into that situation....all the "fuck yeah it would be great to get to fight with giant robos" and no it would not be great it would be terrifying anyone who has experienced combat would know it is not cool to fight and die....his dad is a complete dick head and a ego maniac...but a genius anyway a person who sinji knows he can never be like.....so i have never had a problem with him...

I think the problem is that people have no fucking clue what realism is and the fact that not everyone will "relate" to every character. Name me an anime character and I probably know an actual person that is almost the exact same type as it.

This whole "Oh, I haven't met a person like this so, by default, they don't fucking exist." crap needs to end already.
