Because it is fun to poke fun at other people's accents.
Here in Norway we tend to scorn people who are too heavy on the Norwengrish, and it is common to make jokes about Norwegians talking English and then lazily swapping, misusing, or mistaking words that then give the sentences a completely different meaning.
And since each Norwegian dialect tends to have different Norwengrish accents, there's a ton of stuff to poke fun at.

Come on Toradora wasn't that overrated ._. well maybe a bit but it's still in my top 5 anime list from that particular genre

Well maybe my standards for overrated are inflated because I'm using Angel Beats as a reference point for the term "over rated"

Obviously I would expect to do the same with Tonari but after watching 3 episodes the show really grew on me and now I look forward to when the new episodes come out every week ^_^

I'll definitely consider it, and these comments in particular are helpful. Link's in the sense that well if Tonari really only 'did it' for Toradora fans then it may just not be something I'd be into.

I don't hate shojo, but I can't claim to be a big fan either. Sure I can talk about how much I love Princess Tutu until the cows come home, but those cows would probably be Nanami and then I'd be scratching my head at another Utena joke I didn't get.

Considering I aggressively hate-watched Angel Beats back when it was on (that show was so much fun to make fun of, not so much to watch) I'd agree it's a much worse show. Angel Beats for me was a bit like Sacred Blacksmith or Book of Bantora in that respect: Terrible, but fun to laugh at. Of those three Angel Beats alone seems to have gained a strong post-series fandom and high regard, though, both of which I'll freely confess I don't get at all.

Toradora on the other hand was just kind of middling.

I disagree.

It's part art evolution and part handwaved that she's a growing teen.
Though some of the lead animators, one in particular, did some ridiculous over sizing. Those character designs sucked.
