Before the battle, yet after calculations, if the victor donated more than 60% of the overall money between the two warring factors and wins, that country would end up LOSING money because the expenses exceed the money gained; moreover, the loser will GAIN money if they contributed less than 40%. It makes logical sense that the winner would be whoever has more participants (although you could debate if you have more experienced soldiers/more advanced technology, this would make up for numbers), and thus would make up the larger percent donated because the more warriors/knights participating means more money. This is an interesting economic system, as it could help ensure that each country is more likely to be equal and isn't growing at an exponential rate compared to others, perhaps preventing real war from starting. But interesting is all it is, because of course it would never truly work. If one country had a much better military and technology, all they would need is to contribute a very small amount of the victory money, forcing the opponent to use a large force to prevent from losing. I'm guessing this type of "war" is the primary source of income in this world (probably market off the "war" as a true sport in ways similar to football and baseball) otherwise one team would just have to use a single soldier to prevent from losing money; and I'm sure every country is training and researching as hard as everyone else is as a result of the latter, but in a healthy way, not like in real life.

Besides their economic system, I'm finding the anime to be somewhat entertaining. Though, I really like fantasy anime...
There is another part of the system you left out that in reality would ensure that nobody would actually go along with this. "From the split amount, at least half would be allocated as a reward for the participating soldiers." "The other remaining half is the national profit from the battle event." In other words, the WINNING soldiers collectively get 30% of the participation money.

Let's assume evenly matched sides with fifty soldiers each and a fee of 10 geld, so a pot of 1000 geld. Winning side gets 600 geld and the winning soldiers get 300 geld, for an average payoff of 6 geld, a 40% loss.

Let's assume an uneven fight of 25 to 75 with the same fee. If the bigger force wins, the soldiers get 4 geld on average. If the underdogs win, they get 12 geld on average. And that is only what you get if your team is uniformly productive. If your team has a "hero" or some such thing, they get a higher percentage, reducing your own share. Say one of your 25 beat up half the enemy. They then get 150 geld, and the other 24 get paid about 6. Risk is so far out of proportion to reward that only ass-kicking gods could even think about doing it for the money.

Come and vote for your favorite anime of 2011 at the annual ARC Awards. Pretty much every genre is available to vote for.
Voting ends February the 27th, so make sure to register and vote before then.

The number of participants have been declining, so I would love if more people would join in.

I looked around, and I didn't see anything in the rules that's against this kind of advertising.
Since the voting ends in two days I decided to repost this to try and get some more participants.
Where's Charlotte Dunois for Best Supporting Female Character?

I took a peek at some clips of the dubbed version on youtube. It actually didn't sound half bad.

I can't say why the jury didn't elect her, but for me she wasn't a great character. It would just appear that she is, considering the other ones. She's a good character surrounded by a plethora of irritatingly awful characters.

...she is a better character than Minko though, imo.

Which makes her an even better nomination for best supporting actress, when she supports the rest of the blaggards the show calls a harem (Excluding pre-ice queen Laura) and the nice, kind dumbass that leads the show.
