That was a horrific episode of Shiki. And in horrific I mean something has actually managed to twist my stomach.

Toshio torturing his wife before hammering a stake into her chest as she screams and pleads with him. I was hoping he wouldn't kill her but the brutality and coldness he "examined" her with was monstrous.

Up to now I've not been sympathetic towards the vampires.

Ah welcome to the true essence of Shiki. At points you have to ask who the bigger monster are the humans so capable of such cruelty or the Shiki that are just following their instincts and looking for a place to live.

PS Toshio Okazaki is the man. What he did there was horrific but necessary.

I'm getting that feeling now. After episode 21 I had to ask myself what makes the humans any better than the "monsters" they hunt. I suppose you could call it survival instinct, but it just shows that even humans - with our abundance of intelligence - are no different to animals.

I'm getting back into my anime routine. I will clear something else off my watching list by the end of the weekend for sure (aside from Nichijou which ends anyway)!

That's only half of it.

He didn't do anything to keep the vampire from killing her. He made that choice to let her be finished off so he could have his test subject.
