Now let's see how the nice mindless action - retarded mess balance goes this time...
I was slightly amused at how in the second to last episode some of the characters basically knocked on the fourth wall and pointed out how dumb most of the show had been.

Probably the first of many SAO-like anime to come.
The Wikipedia description makes it sound a lot less like SAO and more like Knights of Ramune & 40 Fire on a larger scale.

Haha no.

Edit: It has an A-P average of 2.4
That doesn't happen by accident. That's a worse average than Seikon no Qwaser has.

I gave it a three, which isn't a good score in the way I think of ratings, but most people would say I was way too generous.

Ok :D

I've seen Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, but not Vampire Hunter D... Guess I know what I'll be watching next.

Edit: Ashi Productions? They have made so many anime, yet I've only seen Iria: Zeiram The Animation that was animated by them. Ultraman USA? What the hell

I gave Blood-C 2.5/5 stars, but that's only because I thought it somewhat redeemed itself at the end, because of this

and other things that made it feel quite less of a worthless piece of shit overall. Before that, the rating in my mind was 1.5.

I'm going to go ahead and say yes. BrainBlow isn't wrong that Mayouu relies a bit on cheap jokes (oh look, gorgeous woman is insecure about her looks! perverted old man!) it has some recognizable harem cliches with your put-upon male lead surrounded by women of varying types and availability, but the central relationship between the Demon King and the Hero is strong and oddly touching in the way Horo and Lawrence often were. It also features a lot about agriculture and economics and social roles and generally isn't stupid about any of it. It's not a great series, and it's still overshadowed in my viewing schedule by two series I picked up last year, but it's well executed and reliable and worth a look.

And for the record, Mayouu Maou Yuusha is a better series than Sword Art Online, and I say that as someone who generally liked SAO (as much as I agree with the criticisms and the harem nonsense and the poor plotting and the rest of it).

I guess I'm damning with faint praise here, but an anime similar to SAO based on a novel by the Mayouu Maou Yuusha author is something I might check out. I still want to see an anime that's set in an MMO that really deals in an interesting way with MMO behaviour - teamwork and collaboration is vital to success, not loner badasses like Kirito.

Not that I necessarily expect that this anime will do that, but Mayouu Maou Yuusha has understood that the Hero has certain limitations and he can't always - if ever - be the guy to solve a given problem.

As central as they are Spice and Wolf would not be what it is without the clever and charming depictions of economics. Anchoring the story around trade is just as important as Horo and Lawrence themselves.

I'd totally watch a show that's similar to SAO written by the Maoyuu Maou Yuusha guy. Maoyuu is a good series and definitely worth watching for anyone who hasn't started it yet.

That does sound more interesting. I'll make sure to check out Maoyuu soon (ideally, I'd like to catch up before it's over).

I agree about S&W. The Horo-Lawrence dynamics are vital, but so is the financial backdrop. While their interactions are witty enough, it's the world-building and their economic deals that make the show truly intelligent and complete.

All of this.
My comment about how this upcoming series will probably have similar jokes is shallowly based on just this though:
Quote:
The main lead Shiroe attempts to survive with his old friend Naotsugu and the beautiful assassin Akatsuki.
The picture in the article also suggests that it will probably be somewhat joke-heavy.

I also generally liked SAO, and I guess one of the reasons I found it hard to dislike is how canny the series was when it came to MMORPGs. It probably would have barely been passable without that.
Perhaps with the exception of boss battles.
...
...
Speaking of Spice & Wolf, it's been quite some time since I've seen the anime, but does Holo have tits in the DVD version?

I think I'd prefer it if the lack of marvelous titties isn't one of the reasons I think the manga is better than the anime.
Well, hard to compete with an artist who is also a pretty good H-manga artist.
I should try to get myself th light novels eventually, but my favorite "local" manga store only has one volume.

I think you hit the nail on the head there.
